Questions for Discussion:
1. How is Pinggang Pinoy useful in maintaining a healthy body?
Pinggang Pinoy is a novel, straightforward visual food guide that illustrates the proper food
category proportions for each meal to satisfy the nutritional needs of adults or a certain
population group. It does this by using the well-known food plate paradigm. It is a visual tool
that helps Filipinos establish good eating habits by effectively communicating nutritional and
lifestyle messages to them at mealtimes. The meal-by-meal recommendations are shown in the
handbook by food group, specifically Go, Grow, and Glow. One can tell right away from the
plate's appearance that the fruit and vegetable-based Glow foods make up half of it. Meats,
eggs, chicken, fish, beans, and other Grow foods are represented by one-sixth of the dish. Go
foods such rice, corn, bread, oatmeal, bread, and root vegetables make up one-third of the
plate.
2. What are the benefits in following the Pinggang Pinoy?
One strategy the nation has chosen to use to fight hunger and vitamin deficiencies is Pinggang
Pinoy. Families should include it into their everyday routines due to its accessibility,
adaptability, and simplicity, according to the FNRI. Additionally, it enables diet to be tailored
more toward the general Filipino populace.
The Pinggang Pinoy is divided into three food groups that are portioned in the way that your
body needs the nutrients. Foods high in carbohydrates, such as wheat, rice, and other starches,
can provide you the energy you need to get through the day.
The protein and minerals required for the growth and repair of tissues, muscles, and bones are
found in foods geared toward muscular growth, such as meat, fish, dairy products, and eggs.
The vitamins and minerals needed to maintain healthy body processes are found in glow or
body-regulating foods like fruits and vegetables, which also provide fiber for a healthy digestive
system.
The program is still making ripples, and it may eventually have a significant positive effect on
Philippine nutrition.
