When updating the firmware on a GuardLogix controller, the safety partner module will be automatically updated as well by ControlFLASH without needing to flash it separately. The firmware kit downloaded for the GuardLogix processor includes firmware for the safety partner. ControlFLASH will not independently update the safety partner if connected directly to the GuardLogix controller via USB.

Question
When I flash update the firmware on a ControlLogix GuardLogix controller, do I need to update the safety partner
module independently?

Answer
No. Though it is possible, it is not necessary to flash the safety partner module separately. ControlFLASH will
automatically update the safety partner when the flash of the GuardLogix controller is complete.

The firmware kit, or the DMK file, that is downloaded from the Product Compatibility and Download Center for
GuardLogix processors includes the firmware for the safety partner, as well.

Note: ControlFLASH will not update the safety partner when connected directly to the GuardLogix controller via
USB.
