Lab Equipment

& its uses

Presented by: JAMIE FRANCIS C. RAY
MICROSCOPE
is an instrument that is
used to see very small
things that cannot be seen
with the naked eye.
BEAKER
• used for holding liquid and solid samples or
catching liquids from different titrations or
filtrates from filtering operations.
• It is used for heating, stirring, and mixing
chemicals
• widely useful in the laboratory as a
reaction container.
TEST TUBES
• Test tubes are used in laboratories to
hold small samples.
• They are mainly used for qualitative
comparison and assessment.
ERLENMEYER FLASK
• It is also known as a Conical
Flask
• It has a slim neck and widens
toward its base
• hold solids or liquids that may
release gases during a reaction or
that are likely to splatter if
stirred or heated.
GRADUATED CYLINDER
• is an essential measuring tool for
the volume of any liquid
• Graduated cylinders are of many
sizes. The smaller they are in size
or diameter, the more exact or
accurate the volume
measurements will be.
BUNSEN BURNER
• a source of heat or mechanical
appliances
• it is linked to a flammable gas
source. Mostly a knob is used to
adjust the gas flow amount and
a pivot collar that manages
airflow
EVAPORATING DISH
• a small dish made of porcelain
used for evaporating and
concentrating dilute solutions
• used for a variety of purposes,
including distillation, drying, and
concentration of solutions.
WATCH GLASS
• circular convex or concave
rounded piece of the glass often
used to hold a small amount of
solid or liquid, to evaporate a
liquid, while being weighed, and
for many other purposes.
FLORENCE FLASK
• It is used for holding liquids and
can easily be heated and swirled.
• the safety edict is that this flask
never is heated when covered or
capped with a stopper. It build-
up pressure and can result in an
explosion.
TEST TUBE HOLDER
• useful for holding a test tube
which is too hot to handle
TEST TUBE BRUSH
• used to clean test tubes and
graduated cylinders.
TEST TUBE RACK
• used to clean test
tubes and
graduated
cylinders.
ALCOHOL BURNER
• Used to produce an
open flame using
alcohol as a burning
source.
FUNNEL
• is used to aid in the
transfer of liquid
from one vessel to
another.
• used for heating certain solids,
CRUCIBLE particularly metals, to very high
temperatures.
• Sets to crush up solid chemicals MORTAR &
into smaller pieces, or to grind PESTLE
solids into fine powder.
TRIPLE BEAM BALANCE
• used to measure masses
very precisely
BEAKER TONGS
• Used to handle hot
beakers
CRUCIBLE TONGS
• Crucible tongs function is widely
found in a science laboratory
equipment or industrial
equipment to handle a hot
crucible, evaporating dishes,
flasks, small beakers or other
items which have a high
temperature or contain
potentially dangerous materials
which cannot be touched with
bare hands
FORCEPS
• used for holding and grasping
small objects in laboratories.
they are used when things are
picked up in bulk or when
large fingers are unable to
collect little and tiny things
STIRRING ROD
• used to manually stir solutions.
It can also be used to transfer a
single drop of a solution.
STRIKERS/ FLINT LIGHTERS
• Used to light Bunsen burner
PIPETTE
• to extract, transport and specific volume of liquid samples.
IRON STAND
• used to support various types of glassware.
WIRE GAUZE
• to diffuse the heat, helping to protect
the glassware.
TRIPOD
• a three-legged platform used to
support flasks and beakers.
• Tripods are usually made of stainless
steel or aluminum and made light-
weight for efficient portability within
the lab.
• Often a wire gauze is placed on top o f
the tripod to provide a flat base for
glassware
