Lesson 1

Corporate Sign-on

The TMI system is accessed directly through the internet at tmiweb.cat.com or

through the Service Information System (SIS) at sis.cat.com. If TMI is accessed
directly through the internet or through SIS, the Corporate Web Security (CWS)
screen will appear. CWS is the entry point for all the CAT data systems. Enter
your login ID and password. If you don’t have an ID yet contact your dealership’s
information systems coordinator.

Initial Screen for TMI Web

This is the initial screen for TMI Web. The vertical navigation bar on the left side
of the TMI Web opening screen includes several selections:

AIMS Applications: AIMS stands for A Cluster Information Management System.

TMI Web: When you choose any selections below TMI Web, information can be
accessed from many data sources by inputting a reference number.
TMI Definitions: The TMI Definitions includes an abbreviation list and a list of
engine performance definitions.
TMI Tutorial: A TMI tutorial is also accessible from the TMI Web initial screen.

Reference Numbers

This is the Engine/Parts Data screen. Click on the drop-down window to select the
particular reference number source you’re going to use. There are several choices:

1. Emodel- this is an engineering model number. As a result of new product introduction new
engine models receive a Emodel number. By typing in the Emodel number technicians can
find out as shipped engine information.
2. Feature code- this number describes a part or engine so when an order is placed with
Caterpillar, the factory can determine what is being ordered.
3. Feature text search- this number will narrow down a general search to components that have
certain attachments or features

NOTE: As of this document publication date the Feature Text Search function is in
development and not yet available.

4. Flash file number- the flash file provides the parameters for the ECM.
5. Invoice number- this is assigned by Caterpillar when the engine is invoiced; it is how
the engine is billed to the dealer and provides a tracking path after the sale.
6. Part number- individual parts are assigned a number and many of these part numbers are
put together in an assembly to form a group.
7. Performance number- this number is assigned by Caterpillar to designate a particular set
of engine parameters.
8. Serial number- the primary number used for researching information about a specific
engine.
9. SerialNo prefix- this number coincides with a machine, engine, or generator.
10. Shipping order number- this number is assigned by the factory at the point of order and
is used to track the engine order through the manufacturing process.
11. Test spec number- this is the fuel setting number like the 0T, 2T, etc. number.
