Operational Summary
Number of rounds and frequency of testing
Electric strength tests are offered in even years.

Applicable standards
The following standards and any associated amendments applied.

IEC 60335-1:2020, IEC 61558-1:2017, IEC 61180-1:2016, IEC 61058-1:2016

IEC 60950-1:2005, IEC 60670-1:2015, IEC 60998-1:2002, IEC 60669- 1:2017

Due to similarities in test procedures, other standards may have been applicable. It was the
laboratory’s responsibility to compare their normal test procedure with the requirements of the
cited standards.

Sample manufacture and assurance of sample integrity

Participants received 1 box with binding posts. Samples were prepared by a subcontracted
organization. On production, homogeneity tests were conducted on each sample by IFM Quality
Services. All required homogeneity criteria were met.

Method of dispatch
All samples were sent via express courier.

Confidentiality
The identity of participants and any identifying information supplied by participants is treated as
confidential. Appropriate policies and procedures have been put into place to ensure this
confidentiality is maintained. Please refer to CPL002 Confidentiality for the detailed policy.

Tests Assessment and Acceptance Criteria

High Voltage Test (Break down)

Pass / Fail assessments for:

• Test A 500 V AC 50/60 Hz 100 mA

(Black - Red) Participants were assessed against the consensus
when ≥ 75 % consensus was achieved.
• Test B 1000 V AC 50/60 Hz 100 mA
(Black - Blue)

• Test C 2000 V AC 50/60 Hz 100 mA

(Black - Green)
Variations to the normal assessment procedure will be detailed in the discussion.

Unless otherwise stated, results showing as unassessed in charts failed to meet IFM’s assessment policy requirements. Please refer to the
assessment procedure on page 2 for more detailed information.

Discussion
Overall, participants performed well, consensus being achieved for all breakdown questions.

Over 97 % of result assessments were favourable.

Equipment Questionnaire
Participants were requested to answer several equipment related questions. These questions were
not formally assessed. The below charts (Figures 1, 2 and 3) are provided for participant information
only.

AC Total Harmonic Distortion
According to IEC 61180-1 “The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the test voltage shall be less than 5
% under full load conditions”. Figure 3 shows the THD reported by participants. Some extreme
values were excluded. Participants who reported THD >5% received outliers.

Breakdown Voltage
Laboratories that reported low breakdown voltage/ leakage current are likely to have either
provided incorrect results or used equipment that does not meet the specifications for this test.
Some participants reported that their equipment is able to conduct tests at max 20 mA.

Participants were requested to report the observed voltage at the time that breakdown occurred.
Breakdown occurred for the below 3 tests:
• Sample B/Test B (Black - Blue) 50 Hz
• Sample B/Test B (Black - Blue) 60 Hz
• Sample C/Test C (Black - Green) 60 Hz

Although breakdown voltage results were not formally assessed, charts (Figures 4-6) are provided
below for participant information only.

Leakage Current
