ENGAGE
WHAT IS POWERPOINT?
PowerPoint (PPT) is a powerful, easy-to-use presentation graphics
software program that allows you to create professional-looking
electronic slide show presentations. PPT is used to present information
organized to an individual or group. Using clip art, sound clips, movie clips,
graphs, organization charts, imported Web screens, and many other
features, you can easily create a presentation that will impress your
audience and convey your message clearly and professionally.
Slides Presentation classes
Microsoft PowerPoint is a professional program that allows the user to create "presentation
slides" that can be displayed on the computer screen or through a projector plugged into the
computer. A PowerPoint presentation is an excellent way to convey information to a large audience,
usually in the form of an outline.
EXPLORE
STARTING POWERPOINT
When starting a PowerPoint application, always look for the Microsoft Office suite and go for the
Microsoft PowerPoint application installed on the PC.

There are ways to start with PowerPoint:

1. click the Windows Start button
2. scroll and look for Microsoft Office folder
3. select and click PowerPoint or
4. look for the PowerPoint icon in Desktop and Taskbar and click to open

THE WELCOME PAGE

Once the application runs, the first thing that will appear on the screen is the welcome page.
A welcome page displays the slides' template and a recently created file. Templates are built-in
designs in PowerPoint slides. A blank presentation is also available to start a slide presentation.

THE POWERPOINT ENVIRONMENT

How to start creating slides quickly
In creating slide presentations, everything will be done quickly. You can present in a minute or less if
the data and other slide contents are ready.
1. On the
welcome
page,
select
Blank

another data entry, repeat step
#4 and add another entry for
your presentation.
6. Start viewing your Presentation by clicking the slide show button at the status Bar.
7. Once done. Click the File Tab and Save the presentation.
At this point, the presentation has no background, animation, or other features. It isjust a primary
display of aslide presentation. This time, we will discuss adding other features to a slide presentation.

SETTING A BACKGROUND DESIGNS

There are many ways to change the background design
1. DESIGN THEME template
2. Click on the DESIGN tab
3. Under the Theme group, select the design template.
Microsoft Office provides a lot of design theme templates for the slides.
4. By using a custom color
5. You may click the DESIGN tab, go to customize group, and select
Format Background
Format Background options
a. Solid fill –only one color is applied to this option.
b. Gradient fill – can make two Or more color combinations as a background
c. Picture or texture fill – and can use an image as a slide background
d. Pattern fill – can use a given pattern with a given custom color.
It will provide a better background, but building a custom pattern
design takes time.
ADDING TEXT TO THE SLIDE
Now, let's enter some text. Even though the slide says,
"Click to add title," you don't have to click anything.
Just start typing! The text will automatically go into the Title
placeholder.
There is also no need to click to add a subtitle. After you
type the title, with the text cursor still at the end of the line.
Any user can add a textbox for additional text on the slide.
Here are some steps to add a textbox:
1. Click the INSERT tab
2. Click on the Text Box button under Text group
3. Once you click the Text Box, click and drag to create a space for your text.
4. Start typing the text you want to add to a slide

ADDING GRAPHICS AND IMAGES TO THE SLIDE

Graphics and images are visual representations that add beauty to the slide. Select the
appropriate images and graphics that match or are closely related to the slides' topics, and you can add
other images and graphics to make your slide livelier. To add graphics and images, follow some steps
below: (Make sure the images are ready on your PC).

INSERTING IMAGES FROM THE COMPUTER

1. Click the INSERT tab; go to Images Group
2. Select the Pictures button; this will bring you to the Pictures file manager
3. Select the folder where the picture is stored

If you want to insert a picture from the internet, I suggest you search for the pictures first from
the internet and then save them to your PC; accessing the internet and working with PowerPoint
simultaneously causes to slow down the process of the computer.

APPLYING SLIDE TRANSITION

A slide transition is the visual effect of moving from one slide to the next during a presentation.
You can control the speed, add sound, and customize the look of transition effects.

1. Select the slide you want to add a transition to.

2. Select the Transitions tab and choose a transition. Select a transition to see a preview.
3. Select Effect Options to choose the direction and nature of the transition.
4. Select Preview to see what the transition looks like.

Select the TRANSITIONS tab, then the None button to remove a transition.

THE TIMING GROUP OF TRANSITIONS

It is possible to add sound effects, timing, and duration during transition. Play around with the
timing group and observe the effect by clicking the preview button under the transition
tab.
• Sound – sounds will come out during the transition effect applied
• Duration – all the transition effects have a
default duration in seconds or
milliseconds.
• On Mouse Click – thetransition will take effect when
the user clicks the mouse button.
• After – move to the next slide after a few seconds.
• Apply To All – the currently selected transition effect will be applied to slides.

ADDING ANIMATION TO YOUR SLIDE

Anything inside the slide can be animated except the background; here is the analogy: consider
the PowerPoint slide as a stage and you as a stage director, and all you have to do is tell the object to
move this way, that way, and so on. There are basic ways to animate the object
• Entrance – telling the object to start moving and do the entrance effect; the list of entrance effects is
Provided.
• Emphasis – telling the object to animate.
• Exit – telling the object to move out from the stage.
• Motion path – this effect option will customize the object's movement how you want it. Try

this animation exercise: This slide animation will make the object to move

3. pre-selected
4. Select Fly-In and observe the result. (The default effect options are From the Bottom)
5. To change the default animation effect, click on the Effect Options button
and select the effect you want to apply.
Try to animate the St. Cecilia’s logo and make the logo turn by applying the Spin Emphasis.
Effect
1. Select the logo
2. Click on the ANIMATION drop-down button to display the other available effect options
3. Go to the Emphasis category and select Spin
4. Return to the ANIMATIONS tab, click preview,
and observe the effect.

5. You can have multiple effects on every object. To add

another effect, click the Add Animation button; in this
case, ensure the object is preselected; otherwise, the
button is disabled.
WORKING WITH THE ANIMATION PANE
Clicking the Animation pane will display the menu on
the right side of the presentation slide. Here, you can
control each animation object and arrange which object
will perform first, and everything about animation control is
found in this menu.
This menu views the timeline of each object in the current
presentation slide.

When you right-click each object, it displays options that you

can do on that particular object.
• Start On Click – animation will start at the click of the mouse.
• Start With Previous –The animation will start with the
previous animation in the timeline
• Start After Previous – animation will start after the
previous animation in the timeline
• Effect Options… and Timing… – display the object's
animation menu.
• Hide Advanced Timeline – it will turn on/off the timeline of all
objects in the slide.
• Remove – remove the animation effect of the object.

WORKING WITH HYPERLINK

Link one slide to another to bypass the next slide in the presentation. For example, slide two is
linked to slide five by clicking one of the objects in slide 2. The object is used to link to another slide.
Probably, that object is a specific topic to the other slide.

Example: Linking COLLEGE OF EDUCATION text from the second slide to the COLLEGE OF EDUCATION topic
slide, which is the fifth slide of the presentation

1. Select the object or part of the object to link;(in my example, the word COLLEGE
OF EDUCATION is highlighted)

2. Right-click and select Hyperlink…; this will bring you to the Insert Hyperlink Menu
3. On the left side is the Link to option; select Place in This Document, and select the slide you want to link.
4. Click the OK button
5. At this point, the word COLLEGE OF EDUCATION is underlined (blue color if the link is not used)
6. Click the Slide Show button or press F5 to view the slides
7. On the slide where the hyperlink is created, move the mouse pointer to the word
assigned as a hyperlink and try to click; the result will jump to the presentation slide
you link.
8. To go back to the previous slide, you have to create another link. (Preferably, use
some icons or buttons to create a hyperlink)

Hyperlinks have options:

• Existing File or Web page – can link to any Files or Website address
• Place in This Document – can link to any available slide within, preferably related to the topic.
• Create aNew Document – this will link to any document created right there or later with a
specific location for the document.
• E-mail Address – link to email address provided.

LET’S TRY THIS!

1. OPEN MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
2. Open a blank presentation
3. Add five (5) blank slides
4. Type the following: (arrange and divide the poem to fit five slides)

HABIT
I am your constant companion.
I Am your most excellent helper or your
heaviest burden. I will push you
onward or drag you down to failure.
I am entirely at your command.
You might as well turn over half the things you do to me, And I will be
able to do them quickly and correctly.
I Am easily managed; you must merely be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done, and I will do it
automatically after a few lessons.
I am the servant of all great individuals And, alas, of all failures.
Those who are great, I have
made great. Those who are
failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine, Though I work with all the precision of a machine Plus
the intelligence of a human being.
You may run me for profit or ruin; It makes no difference to
me. Take me, train me, be firm with me, And I will put the
world at your feet.
Be easy with me, and I will destroy you. Who am I? I am a habit!
5. Add some images related to HABIT
6. Set a background; you may use a built-in background or set your background color
7. Set the Transition effect and apply it to all slides
8. Apply some Animation Effects; you can set your animation by choosing Entrance,
Emphasis, or Exit animation effects
9. Save the file to HABIT.pptx
