VI. Tools
A. Preparatory Works
B. Layout
1. Study the approved Wall setting lay-out plans prior start of lay-out.
2. Using the given reference of Line and Grade (Gridlines, offset mark,
etc.), lay-out the wall line on the floor . Use oil marker (pitik) to mark
this line. This line shall be the "Finished Wall Line".
Note:
Site team and Inspector must agree to the layout reflected on site if
Finished Wall Line or CHB Wall Line. (Red Marking)
Always provide 300mm offset (White Marking) from Finished Wall Line
for easy checking during inspection.
Notes:
For door openings, agree or prepare shop drawing for the CMO to consider the
grouting of jambs. Always mark on the flooring the center line for door
considering the correct width of doors indicated on the door schedule plus 75mm
on both sides and this will serves as your masonry opening. Normally, a 75mm
gap at both sides and top of the jamp edge is enough for the grouting in case not
specified in the plans.
All M&E blocks -outs must have approved shop drawing of CMO, so that the CHB
installer may adjust the allowance fir finishing the CMO with plaster only (less
than 20mm allowance anly.)
C. Mortar Mixing
2. Introduce and mix aggregate in such a manner that the materials will
be distributed uniformly throughout the mass.
Materials Properties:
Volumetric Proportion:
Water : 14 liters
Cement : 1 bag (40kg)
S-1 Sand : 3 cu.ft.

D. CHB Laying
3. Roughen the floor surface where CHB will be laid. Clean and wet lighty
before spreading mortar bedding evenly.
4. Lay the first course of CHB starting with the corner units and fill all cells
solidly with filler mortar by rodding. A level will be used to check for
alignment, grade and plumbness.
5. Before installing the succeeding layers of CHB, CQC will be notified for
inspection to check conformance to requirements.
8. After a section of the wall has been laid, tool the joints to assure
weather tightness, compaction of mortar and neat appearance of
the wall.
10. For CHB walls terminating on reinforced columns, beams, and slab,
provide polystyrene sheet at the end of CHB wall with a 12mm gap
(vertical) and 25mm gap (horizontal) for sealant application for these
construction joints.
11. When you reach the last two layers, it will be difficult o install the CHB
from top because the vertical reinforcement already reached the
dowels drilled on the soffit. At this stage, place the seismic isolator
(normally felt paper or polyethylene sheets) if required in plans.
Tips: For the last two layers, before placing the CHB, fill the cells while
in the scaffold level then carefully insert to place. It is very hard to
insert mortar from the top due to tight space. This way minimal
insertion is needed.
13. Carefully and patiently fill the voids on the cell on the topmost lip
of CHB before placing the Styrofoam spacers.
