Project Proposal
Project Proposal
What ideas or themes are starting to emerge from the acquisition tasks? What do you hope to
explore/communicate?
Please use this section to talk about the meaning of this project for you at this stage - what themes or
ideas are beginning to emerge? How will you expand upon these?
In the acquisition tasks we have been able to explore different ways of creating artwork and
a storyline, I especially liked the task where we created a story out of paper onto the light
projector. I used the projector within my photography a level however I never thought I
could use it as a concept to create a story. I want to figure out a way of creating a story
within a singular object that is open to interpretation by the audience for them to create a
number of stories from once object/scene. At this stage I feel it is important to create some
imaginative with a lot of additional ideas sprouting from it, I want to use the skills of creating
work from a unique perspective into this new piece. A metaphor is a perfect theme for my
ideas as I feel to me that is the best way to allow unique ideas to explain something that can
be something else entirely to someone else.
Thursday 7th – From the acquisition tasks I have explored the drawing side for the my main
plan for what I would create from the live drawing class, I also have used techniques of
different placement between the three little pigs lightbox task, I definitely had a lot of trial
and error in this when attempting a few different layouts with my mockups.
Consider how you can build your understanding further by becoming more informed of your theme/
concept.
Reflect on what do you already know about your emerging theme or concept. How can you deepen
this existing understanding? Are there specific books and interviews, film and exhibitions that will
broaden your understanding? Is there is a contemporary and historical context that surrounds your
theme/concept? Are there suggestions made by your tutors and peers that you can follow up?
I intend to research more into miniature scenes as that is what I intend to create. I have
found a few artists mentioned to me by my tutors as well as research on my own. Thomas
Demand is a German sculptor and photographer I intend to look further into his work to
figure out an effective way of creating a small scene. I also visited a museum in France, Lyon
where there was a whole section of the museum based around the ideas of miniature
scenes. I want to examine some of those scenes.
Thursday 7th – I research a lot of different miniature artists, one that reflects a lot on the
creation of memories and feelings which I chose to take the furthest by creating a personal
memory of my own. My mothers greenhouse.
From a studio perspective, what materials or processes do you need to source, arrange, or learn
to create a wider body of work and exploration?
Alongside identifying the wider themes and questions of your work, consider what materials you
might need to source, digital tools or resources to arrange and learn? Be realistic and reflect on your
time management and organisational skills from this module.
Moving forward, how can you create ways to better organise your workload and time management to
fulfil your potential?
I intend to create a miniature scene therefore I will be using a wide range of materials I was
able to work with pod brick in my last experimental task and want to use this skill further
into creating something with higher levels of detail, a clear thick plastic cover to allow
audiences to view inside the box without touching and damaging it. I also want to
incorporate a light fixture so I will be looking into how I will be able to create that, Natural
warm lighting fixed onto the wall will allow the detail to be viewed within the box while
alongside highlighting the 3d effect. I’ve chosen idea very similar to our most recent project
as we only have a short window of time to create our work and I really enjoyed the box
project therefore I wanted to use the skills I had already used and bring new materials to
accelerate the idea as a whole.
Thursday 7th – I chose to maximise my time by creating each stage and uploading my
information onto weebly as that way I was able to keep up to date with each thought and
feeling into my work.
Is there a specific context that you would like your work to be seen e.g., a magazine, online, gallery,
community, or retail space? Describe the impact that you would like your work to have on your
audience.
I want my idea to be received in a gallery, I feel it would be more interesting for viewers to
see the work face to face that was they are able to view it in a closer proximity whereas
online I don’t think viewers would be able to see the detail that is involved. I want my work
to have a feel and understanding that any memory can be created in a keepsake form. I
believe hat for some people the reliving of a memory is such a powerful feeling therefore
the scenes I would create would have the same effect onto people.
Thursday 7th – I am still confident and happy with my previous answer on having my work
displayed in a gallery I feel that is the best way to see how far I have come with the creation
of my work.
How will you develop this proposal?
We fully anticipate that this proposal will change as you move through the module, and we expect
you to develop a second draft after the mid module review point. Coming back and amending a
project brief is vital in this stage in your learning - as it allows you to manage your expectations and
ambition at the half way point.
Why might you need to revisit your initial concept? How will you know when things are going well?
How will you plan for when you get stuck or for when things get difficult?
I think that when you are creating some work the initial idea can sometimes slip out of your
head and you get slightly confused as to what you were creating this object for in the first
place. I intended to capture memories in scene like objects. However, I know I could easily
lose sight and focus on the electrical stand point of it all rather than the real meaning. I will
frequently read back on my notes and allow myself to be taken back to the initial idea.
Thursday 7th – I chose to not create the electrical piece of the work as I felt it would become
to cluttered and I wanted to focus my time on the layout and detail of my work. Given more
time on the project or a chance to re create I would have liked to experiment with different
forms of lighting but in this case I didn’t try any outcomes with this embellishment.
How will you plan for the Health and Safety and end-of-life disposal of your project?
How will you minimise the impact of your creative process and ensuing practical or digital work on
others i.e. the studio space? What are the environmental and sustainability impacts of your piece and
the materials and processes used to create it? What is an appropriate scale at this stage in your study?
I am aware there are many safety issues when it comes to creating work in such a small
working area. With my work I find the main issues will be from the tools that I use. I intend
to use a range of adhesive glues, soldier and a standing knife, while using all this equipment I
intend to take all precautions necessary so that me and my classmates are not in danger. I
will do this by wearing protective gloves when handing hot equipment and use safety matts
where needed to not harm others and my work space.
Thursday 7th – I didn’t use a soldiering iron however all the other equipment used was done
correctly and done with all the correct gear in the correct spaces.
