Overview of the Industry:

In today’s time, the Brass goods are formed almost all over the world.
However, this was not the case in the past. The Brass Part manufacturing was not
developed at all the seats of the world, because it needs a specific type of disease
and pastiness to mound the fresh material into a specific plan. And also, the fresh
materials essential to transport on the manufacture were also not offered very
simply in the past. But with the way of time, with the growth of transportation
services and technologies all such even race required been uninvolved and the
Brass Part work started developed at almost all over the country.

Indian factory manufacturing is the sixth main industry in the world

after: USA, China, Japan, Russia and Germany. Indian foundry manufacturing is
the second main player after China in relationships of Units & Number of People
Employed. There are 7000 known factory units with small, medium & large-scale
sectors in all over the nation and approx. 80% workshop units are in the small
scale. Indian factory manufacturing has a sizeable export income of goods valued
at Rs.3400 Cr. per year. Now, the manufacturing is upward at 8% a year, & is
single-minded to increase this over to 20% by 2010. The modern world survey of
casting by modern manufacture – USA, India produces an valued 6mt of various
grades of moulding as per Global standards, proving that the realities of Indian
factory are strong enough to cater domestic demands & exports.

Today, there are many nations at where the Brass Part factories have been
started and working correctly. For example, India, China, USA, UK, Malaysia,
Singapore, etc. out of all these countries, the two major countries that are
industrial Brass Part items are China and India. Chiefly in the whole world,
Jamnagar city is known for the community of brass part items. A person can
easily find any brass made item in Jamnagar at least cost and of progression of
good quality.

12
Jamnagar is identified as believed brass parts manufacturing centre for
more than half a century. Another major innovative in the history of brass part
manufacturing in Jamnagar was the creation of first state supported
manufacturing estate in Jamnagar namely., GIDC Phase-I in the year 1969. In
1983 the Government of Gujarat through its Gujarat industrial development
corporation, launched the creation of GIDC Phase-II. These public and private
industrial estates gave a real boost to the brass parts industry in Jamnagar.

Today, with the help of the government for the development of brass
part industry in Jamnagar, numbers of brass items are produced in numbers of
factories. Government has provided many grants to brass part industry for the
EOUs (Export Oriented Units) to boost the export of the brass items.
The following figure shows the illustrative growth of brass parts industries in
Jamnagar

Present status:
As on time there are 15000 brass part industrial unit end to end with 520
electroplating and metal finishing of brass parts. Around 750 brass foundry units
catering to the need of fresh material for brass part industrial units in Jamnagar.
Brass parts are industrial from brass casting which is the basic fresh material for
the brass parts machining components.

There are around 1000 factories with a volume of about one mass per
day, also fourteen brass-extrusion flowers 550 to 700 buffing / nickel /
electroplating factories and about 65 highly knowledgeable and talented brass-
parts machinery storytellers. All these manufacturing units are supported by many
traders, traders and exporters whose number is predicted to be about 850
(including outsiders).

Factors behind the Development of

Brass Industry in Jamnagar City

The process of rise of brass parts manufacturing in Jamnagar was impulsive and not induced.
A few ground-breaking businesspersons started manufacturing screws, pins and bulb holder. As their
enterprises grew in volume and operation, others also followed. Though there is no outward reason
“why manufacturing produced in Jamnagar and not in other parts of the states/ country?”, but the
following issues played an central role in development the growth of the brass part manufacturing at
Jamnagar.

➢ Accessibility of Fresh Material:

Raw materials used in brass honey, dross of brass , pales in the form of strips and other
scrap. This raw material became easily available in and around Jamnagar at a reasonable price. As
the industry grew the process of procuring raw material, from within the country and abroad became
more and more smooth. Other inputs like cock, molasses and machines were also available locally.

15
Skilled Manpower and Customized Machines:
Skilled specialists and labours were also easily presented in this group. Because of farmed
development (mainly due to scarcity of water) and non-availability of another job, people started
learning the services of manufacturing brass parts and functioning the machines. The cost of
employing a labour was also slight. Moreover, second-hand & customized machines were available
at reasonable price.

➢ Existence of Well-Developed Ports:

Jamnagar has a long coast and the ports industrialized by Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB)
were well developed. GMB has developed two havens viz., Rosy Bandar & Bed Bander. These
ports had services of doing load and delivery business in the ship. These havens have really donated
to successful the export-import business not only for brass parts manufacturing creativities but also
for enterprises involved in industrial chemical, fertilizer, textile and salt. Moreover, the strategic
location of Jamnagar made export-import business easier.

➢ Flexible Specialization:
There are about 13,000 variations of brass manufacturing in Jamnagar. The entrepreneurs
were able to make wide range of parts having different shape, sizes and charities. Even the machines
are customized locally and made available in the market at practical prices. Broken firms and
authorizing preparation made the manufacturing more elastic and particular. Even when the buyers
placed orders of 200000 pieces of a specific size cycle tube valve and 25/30 pieces of other sizes
cycle tube regulators, the manufacturers were able to perform the same.

➢ The Soil Base:

Though there is no apparent technical reason to support their claim, the entrepreneurs at
Jamnagar are of the opinion that the soil (Chiknimitti) composition also helped in manufacturing
quality brass castings. A composition of oil and sand is used in the mound to a particular give shape
and size to the brass parts. The more is the binding property of soil and sand, the better is quality
of product manufactured. The availability of water also ushered the growth of the cluster.
➢ Patronage from Govt. of Gujarat:
The industry Dept. Govt. of Gujarat has simplified the growth of the cluster by as long
as basic substructure and loan on easy relations. In the year 1976, Gujarat Industrial Development
Corporation developed the GIDC industrial estate in Shankar Tekari. Land, electricity, water and
industrial sheds were also providing sufficiently for the growth of brass industry.

16
➢ Entrepreneurship:
Gujarat is well recognized for its businesspersons. People here,
chiefly in Saurastra region (Jamnagar belongs to Saurastra region of Gujarat)
are very business in nature. If they get least business opportunity, they will not
mind jump on it. As some ground-breaking people started the business and
getting good return on their savings, others did follow. This has happened with
diesel engine cluster in Rajkot, Tiles group in Morbi etc. The protest effect
and the entrepreneurial and risk-taking attitude of the local people also
covered the way for the development of this manufacturing.

17
SWOT Analysis of Indian Brass Manufacturing

Personal Department
Introduction
The group of man is very significant in any group because of
management can reach its goals with co-operative of people working in the group
so workers department is the most significant department. Workers management
is the direction and co-ordination of human relations in the business organization.
Its main objective is all-out output with the lowest use of physical and mental
effort of labour power.

Any group needs basically six inputs to run the group smoothly. They
are male, cash, mechanism, marketplace, material and method. Production of this
human resources are the most significant inputs. They vary from other inputs like
moods, feeling, and intelligence of job fulfilment, inspiration etc. The workers
function can be broadly clear as “Organization of people at work.”

In Sujata international, the Workers Section is very real. It looks after

the needs and desire of every worker. It believes that a content worker is as asset
of the corporation.

Manpower Planning

Workforce planning may be defined as a plan for the gaining,

expansion, provision and use of an enterprise’s human capitals. Gaining of
personnel deals with the task of recruitment and selection of workers of the
desired skill-mix. Training and growth plans help in mitigating scarcities and
surpluses in workforce supply through elevations and transfers.

In Sujata international, the M.D of the corporation along with the head
of the personnel section, agrees about the numbers of workers as well as workers
required to carry out the compulsory work and also that of the right quality. So
that the work can be carried on very professionally and competently without
shackling to the quality of the work and as per the development that has been
carried out in advance.

37
Recruitment and Selection
After the class and measure of workers needs have been definite the job of its
recruitment and collection starts. There are number of ladders are involved in this
task:

Recruitment

It is important that the right man should be employed for the true place at
the correct time in true time. So, staffing has been observed as the most significant
function of workers’ section. The best staffing procedure is good for the
development of the organization. A proper employee is selected through proper
and good employment policy, so that workers, group and the country are helped.
For this the main movement to be followed is to find out various sources of the
supply of labour forces.

In short, we can say that Employment is the process of penetrating for

prospective employees and inspiring them to apply for the works in the group.

In Sujata international, once the request has been conventional, the

personnel section can begin the process of employment or the job-preview given
by the company. They are by means of several sources for staffing show in below.

38
Selection

Next receiving the right bases for recruiting the right staffs in the group
the next main important step of the workers manager is to choose about the right
kind of selection procedure to ensure that the right kind of personnel is selected
for the right place. Assortment, as the name infers, involves picking for hire a
sub-set of workers from the total set of workers who have practical for the job.
Selection is done comparation the supplies of job with the applicant’s
experiences.

Orientation

After placement of the employees for the right job, the next very
important function of the human resource department is to provide necessary
information regarding the working conditions of the company to newly appointed
employees. This will reduce the feeling of not being recognized by the company
amongst the employees.
Induction is the development of welcoming a new member into the new
social location of his work. The step should take into version two major matters:

(I) Train the new member with his new close and company rules and
guidelines, and

(II) Participating his private goals with the structural goals.

(III) An overview to other staffs and company group system.

39
Training and Development

Working out is the act of growing the information & skills of a

employee & worker for doing a sure job. It is worried with reporting specific
skills for purposes. It is a turn stone of sound organization. Worker training is the
development whereby persons learns the helps, information, arrogances and

beginning to the end of the process.“The quality of a thing shows the value of
the thing.”

Describes the ability and skill of the creator of the thing. Good quality
attracts the customers towards the product and if the product is available at a
reasonable price then the customers prefer the same product.

The quality and value of the product can be properly utilized if one wants
to move forward while working in the industrial market and to develop the
business.it is also important to know the needs of the customers and the overview
of their product.

In addition, if the price of raw material keeps incresing and decreasing,

it is necessary to know the order time and the price of raw material at that time.

For the development of an industry,it’s management system, their work

experiences, working process, the services provided to their customers etc. affect
and new technology should be used in manufacturing over time.
