f. Drill/Motivation The teacher will challenge the students to determine

the center and radius of a pizza.

Scenario:
Ms. Oliveros and her class went to an educational trip,
the first stop will be on the Baluarte de San Diego, 2 nd
is Mall of Asia, and the final destination is Enchanted
Kingdom. While on the bus, she surprised her class
by bringing pizza pie from Domino’s Pizza. While
enjoying the trip she challenges them to determine the
center and radius of the pie. If you are one of the
students, how will you do that?

name.
 Get the activity kit prepared by the teacher.
 The students will solve a jigsaw puzzle and
answer the guide questions, then post it on the
board. (Group 1 will post their puzzle at the left
side of the board, group 2 at the middle, and
group 3 at the right side of the board.)
 Students will only have ten (10) mins to do the
activity.
Processing Questions:

1. Find the standard equation of the given figures.

2. How do you identify the standard form of equation
of a circle?

General Form of the Equation of a Circle

The general equation of a circle is x 2+ y 2+ Dx + Ey+ F=0

where D , E ,∧F are real numbers. This equation is
obtained by the expanding standard equation of a circle, ¿
.

For example:
1. Now that Ms. Oliveros and her class went to their
first stop, the Baluarte de San Diego. A student
noticed that the place was in a circular shape. Ms.
Oliveros challenged the students to simplify the
equation. Given that Baluarte de San Diego has an
equation of

¿
h=2 , k=−3 , r=4

¿
2
( x ¿¿ 2−4 x+ 4)+( y +6 y +9)=16 ¿
2 2
x + y −4 x+6 y+ 4+ 9−16=0
2 2
x + y −4 x+6 y−3=0

D=−4
E=6
F=−3

2. It was their lunch break, Ms. Oliveros with her

class goes to the Mall of Asia. A student saw the
Eye of the Mall of Asia, the Ferris wheel. Out of
nowhere, she relates it to their mathematics topic
which is circle. Given that the Ferris wheel has the
center of ( 4 ,−1 ) and a radius of 7 units. Ms.
Oliveros once challenged her students again to
find the general equation of the ferris wheel.
¿

¿
h=4 , k=−1 , r=7

¿
(x ¿¿ 2−8 x +16)+( y¿ ¿ 2+ 2 y +1)=49¿ ¿
2 2
x + y −8 x+ 2 y +16 +1−49=0
2 2
x + y −8 x+ 2 y −32=0

D=−8
E=2
F=−32

3. Now that they have arrived at their destination, the

place that full of magic, Enchanted Kingdom. Since
Ms. Oliveros’ advisory class didn’t able to ride at
the eye of the MOA, they took flying fiesta as their
first ride. With this, they challenged themselves to
find the general equation of the flying fiesta. Given
that the center of the Ferris wheel has (−1 , 3 )and a
radius of 5.
¿

¿
h=−1 , k=3 , r=5

¿
(x ¿¿ 2+2 x+1)+( y¿ ¿2−6 y +9)=25 ¿ ¿
2 2
x + y + 2 x−6 y+1+ 9−25=0
2 2
x + y + 2 x +6 y−15=0

D=−2
E=6
F=−15
H. APPLICATION

Application  Groupings will be based on the color of the sticker

COMPLETE ME! name.
aMAZE ME!  Get the activity kit prepared by the teacher.
FIND ME!  Read the instructions carefully that is indicated in
the activity kit.
 Each group will have one task that is included in
the activity sheet.
 Students will only have ten (10) mins to do the
activity.
