INTRODUCTION: (SLIDE 1)

Good evening, everyone! Our Group is assigned to report the Philippine National Railways or PNR.

BEFORE I START, this is the official logo of Philippine National Railways (PNR) (SLIDE 3)

• The Philippine National Railways (PNR) is a state-owned railway

company in the Philippines that operates one commuter rail service
between Metro Manila and Laguna, and local services between Sipocot, Naga,
and Legazpi in the Bicol Region. It is an attached agency of the Department of
Transportation.
• The PNR was founded on November 24, 1892; and it is 131 years ago,
the PNR (was named Ferrocarril de Manila-Dagupan) during the Spanish colonial
period. On June 20, 1964; 59 years ago (it became as Philippine National
Railways by virtue of Republic Act No. 4156.).
• The owner of the PNR is the Government of the Philippines under the
Department of Transportation.

SLIDE 3: MANDATE OF DEPARTMENT

• "The Philippine National Railways, being a factor for socio-economic development and growth,
shall be part of the infrastructure program of the government and, as such, shall remain in and
under government ownership during its corporate existence. The PNR must be administered with
the view of serving the interests of the public by providing them the maximum of service and,
while aiming at its greatest utility by the public, the economy of operation must be ensured so that
service can be rendered at the minimum passenger and freight prices possible."

SLIDE 4: PNR VISION:

• An improved, sustainable railway system running from Manila to Legaspi, carrying cargo to and
from North Harbor and Batangas, providing commuter lines from Caloocan to Calamba and in
Bicol; poised for a unified rail system in Luzon from Sorsogon to! locos branching to Cabanatuan
and Tuguegarao. With a perspective study of a transnational railroad system covering Luzon,
Visayas, and Mindanao; enjoying robust ridership and freight, providing accessible means of
transport that's comfortable, secure, reliable, and affordable to satisfied commuters - all these
through a responsive PNR organization engaged in Public-Private-Partnership.
PNR MISSION:
• The PNR shall provide safe, reliable, and affordable railway services as a socioeconomic
development tool within the framework of the national infrastructure system, while ensuring
sustainable operations so that optimum service can be rendered at minimum passenger and
freight prices. In the next slide, we will listen to Ms. GALAMGAM

SLIDE 5: OBJECTIVES:

1. Efficient Transportation: Provide a safe, reliable, and efficient railway transportation

system for passengers and freight across different regions of the Philippines.
2. Connectivity: Improve connectivity between urban centers and rural areas, facilitating
easier movement of people and goods.
3. Decongestion: Alleviate traffic congestion in major cities by offering an alternative
mode of transportation.
4. Economic Development: Contribute to the economic development of regions served
by the railway by facilitating trade, commerce, and tourism.
5. Accessibility: Ensure accessibility to transportation services for all segments of the
population, including those in remote or underserved areas.
6. Environmental Sustainability: Promote the use of a more environmentally friendly
mode of transportation compared to road-based vehicles, reducing carbon emissions
and pollution.
7. Modernization: Upgrade and modernize railway infrastructure, rolling stock, and
operational systems to meet international standards and improve overall service quality.
8. Safety: Ensure the safety and security of passengers, employees, and railway assets
through the implementation of strict safety protocols and maintenance practices.

On the next slide, we will listen to Ms. Daguro to discuss the powers and functions.

SLIDE 6: POWERS AND FUNCTIONS:

• The Philippine National Railways is a vital component of environmental sustainability

and economic growth in Luzon, improving connectivity within the boundaries of the
Philippines. Its responsibilities include offering effective passenger transportation
services, supporting mass transit for a more environmentally friendly future, and
facilitating trade through freight services. For the Philippines to advance, this railway
system must be developed and improved upon going forward. The PNR encourages
mass transit, which helps to sustain the environment. Encouragement to take trains
rather than drive personal vehicles lowers air pollution and carbon emissions. This is
in line with the government's initiatives to combat climate change and promote
sustainable development.

Now Let’s listen to MS. TUCAY for the next slide:

SLIDE 7: VIDEO
• In the video that we will present to you now, we will show how the DOTR and the PNR are
preparing and planning the new two trains that are called DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit), which is
one of the high-tech trains of the railways that came from Indonesia and were delivered to the
Philippines in 2019.
AFTER THE VIDEO:
• In that video, we witnessed how they examined, processed, and what amenities and components
are included in the railcars before they are delivered and assembled by skilled engineers and
craftsmen from PT INKA in Indonesia. We also saw the visit and inspection of the DOTR
secretary and the PNR delegation to ensure the safety of commuters in the future.
SLIDE 8:
• And that’s all for today! And thank you for listening!
