GENERAL INFORMATION

Amp FreQQ is an emulation of a

Reggae sound system control tower
Welcome to a new and exciting way to play reggae and other bass music.

It allows unprecedented control of frequency and emulates how 4 way sound systems play music, plus
more. It dissects the frequencies and allows for pure musical interaction at source. Remaster and redub
any audio signal. Live remixing or live dubbing of stereo recordings.

Please note that this app will not play completely flat . A certain amount of colour is achieved by the way
our parametric controls on the 4 bands. The default settings produce a “sound system” sound, so please
adjust to suit your needs. Every parameter is editable, then saves automatically on exit

It’s all about balancing everything. This new software technology permits the user to define four distinct
bands of sound. The most important thing is to balance the bands to correctly maximize the available
frequencies on both the track being played and your attached speakers. Please try to use the gains on the
killers for gentle EQ control and not volume. You should keep your power amp gains quite high and use the
killer gains to get the right amount of gain for each band. Amp FreQQ permits freely assignable crossover
points and therefore you can efficiently select the frequencies to attain the very best results out of any
music you play.

Please be aware that on some hi-fi/speaker systems, you may have some kind of limiters built in either the
amplifiers or speakers. This will of course mean Amp FreQQ is unable to complete its duty and can only
push to the limits of what is available!!

Sound System emulation

A 4 way Sound System usually comprises of the following basic parts:

• A bespoke handmade Preamp or mixer or speaker management LMS to power speaker arrays, with
separate Echo and reverb and siren units
• Rack EQ and processors
• Power Amplifiers
• Sub Bass, Bass (Kick), Mid and High Speaker arrays

Amp FreQQ was originally created for home use and to maximize your existing home sound system setup
and emulate all of the above. However since we launched in 2017, many users have been using this app in
conjunction with or instead of alternative DJ software.

A lot of hardware preamps are notoriously difficult to understand, therefore we created a way to visually
tweak your sound , making the job of getting the best out of each track much simpler. First we will try and
explain a little about sound. tweak your sound , making the job of getting the best out of each track much

GENERAL INFORMATION

Fig B Graph showing hearing range of humans

Frequency response describes a range of audible frequencies. A speaker can reproduce between 20 Hz
(deep bass) and 20 kHz (a piercingly high frequency), which is considered the range of human hearing. In
reality, our hearing does not typically extend up to 20 kHz (especially as we get older), and bass
frequencies below 30 Hz tend to be felt more than heard. Since everyone has different speakers of
different configurations.

So Whats the FreQQ All about ?

You can play music from any source and "dub" the it live

Amp FreQQ allows you to sculpt frequencies into four separate bands. The core feature of this app are the
4 x EQ Kill switches. Each band has filterband control with a graph and comes preset with suggested
settings. You should not need to adjust these much. The gain fader are set at 0dB but there is available

Super powerful custom 4 band Equalizer will allow for macro changes on the audio signal, while the 10
band is for finer adjustment.

Unique to the FreQQ is the process of FX delivery. The traditional way is to send out using an aux send dial.
We use momentary triggers which then passes the signal through independent band pass filter graphs.
This process allows the user to punch and blend in effects as though they were in the original recording.
Therefore creating new "versions" of their music on the fly.

We also have a custom designed dub siren and 12 slot sample player which can be routed to the FX

The one knob filter is an adjustable resonant filter with a few routing options.

Once you understand and learn how this app operates, you will be able to Recreate, Revive, Redub, Remix
and Rejoice with the power of Amp FreQQ!

inputs. Pan control is below the faders should you wish to play stereo.

Please always ensure the input signal is as high as possible, so that the system has a good strong sound to
process.

In order to use the Mic/Aux input independently please refer to appendix A

*Play from CD, Turntable, Phone, DJ software, DAW or any other source . Please see appendix C.

• We use Trigger push sends to “punch in” effects directly into the music. There are independent sends
for source inputs

• Rewind function. As it suggests, actually rewinds your digital file and the length of rewind is regulable
by the dials placed to the left of the rewind buttons tracks A and B

• BP Bypass button allows audio from samples to bypass the Killer switches. This is also used should you
want to remix a track, with flat EQ and blend in echos, reverbs and sound effects.

Sample Player
Twelve slot sample player can be used to play any audio clips such as jingles, adverts,
dub siren clips or any other samples. They can be played via a dial and momentary
trigger or via single buttons controlled via midi. There are also independent reverb and
echo sends, that can be momentary triggered via the keyboard or midi control. The HP
fltr is high pass filter to remove unwanted bass frequencies

In addition to this, whole tracks can be played through the sampler and you can use
the bypass switch (BP) to have a cleaner (bypasses kills) signal to record out.
This way you can record a mix with FX etc without colouring the overall sound with
the killer bands.

Samples can be loaded in several ways. Click and drag a single sample and drop into
the samples section in the main app interface, then turn the dial and repeat the
process. Or click load button to open and select sample to load then turn the dial and
repeat. Or you can also select several samples (up to 12) and drop them directly into
the same area. Or click and drag to sample slots one by one. Hovering over sample

slots displays the loaded sample or audio file. The application will remember the last loaded samples.
Echo send level is also provided.

Lastly, you can click and drag your single samples to any of the twelve slots in the panel area. When
loaded the slot will turn part yekllow. When sample is engaged the while slot displays yellow. The switch
to the right of each slot, allow you to select momentary or full playback of the sample loaded.

Midi Learn
The midi function is simple and should work for all midi controllers, but we cannot guarantee functionality with
dedicated units for other applications. So long as it is class compliant and recognised by the operating system,
it should be available on Amp FreQQ.
• First open settings and check to see if you connect controller is displayed, if it is not please click midi
rescan. Once your controller is displayed you can begin the mapping process
• Click the midi learn switch. This may take a few seconds to engage and disengage.

can set several kill switches with one button (highlight your kills on the app, then push your single button on
the controller) or you can add two or more buttons, faders or dials to any single function on the app. All
functions are available for MIDI control on the app, including the twelve sample slots. Be careful to assign
carefully one at a time.

• To delete a single assigned control, whilst in midi learn mode, click the control you want to clear (It will be
green) then press the shift key and click with the mouse.

• When assigning controls on the playlists or panels, It Is advised that you open them, before midi learn.
• Once you have completed your assignments, please do the following right away.

• Test all the controls.

• Click save and name your mapping, save.

• Then Load your file from where you saved it (otherwise all your mappings will be lost) .

• You will notice that two files appear.

enables a repeat feature.

10 Band Graphic Equalizer

10-Band Graphic EQ gives subtle amounts of tone shaping and level control. With ten carefully chosen
frequencies, It will let you tune your track correctly in seconds.

4 Band Parametric Equalizer

• Freq - Frequency
This determines where the range set below is positioned in the audio spectrum.

• Range
This determines how wide or narrow the EQ band is. A setting further clockwise will narrow the range.

13
USER INTERFACE

There Is a dynamic display which shows the current set range. In the
Image for example the Bass Is set to 85hz to 248hz. Moving this dial
changes the start Frequency.

• Gain
The EQ have no effect without some gain reduction or addition, no

matter what you do with the other controls. Gain determines how
much of a certain group of frequency is boosted or cut.

Limiters

Each limiter is set on as default, please adjust these to your required levels depending on
your needs. Sliding the fader to the left will reduce the overall output gain available. These
can be used both for protection and also creatively.

Record Out
A basic record function has been provided. Simply click the record button to the left and this
will open up a browser, please give a name to your file and the choose the type. When you are
ready to record, click the start button in the middle and it will begin to record (the LED will
come on). Press stop when finished and the LED switches off.

HP/LP

This is a high pass and low pass resonant filter. This simply operates clockwise to engage the filter and anti-clockwise
fully puts it back to idle. The switch determines which filter will be in operation. The Q slider controls the amount of
resonance from none to high.

The routing selector:

• A Works on source signal only
• B Works on master signal
• C Works on Samples only

Effects Processors

Both processors bypass the kills and go straight to Master. They also include band pass filters in their
audio paths, therefore opening up creative expression that fits better into the music being played. Press
the trigger send on any of the sources at the right times and musically interact with your track to create a
special remix.

Reverb Processor

The direct switch on the FX processors, routes the entire incoming audio through the filter. Or you can
choose to have this off, if you want a less filtered effect (Also open the Q). With direct on, the input signal
is doubled, so with it off you will need to add a bit more gain.

of the control box (It will highlight Red) and
drag narrower or wider to your desired
bandwidth, then click and drag anywhere on
the graph horizontally to select the frequency
group you want to effect and vertically to cut

or boost. The left margin can be used to reset the Q. If you hover over the any band with your mouse you
will see the settings currently chosen, with the centre frequency, gain and Q.(As shown in graph).

The best way to use these is to set them while you are playing a track, then rewind!

Please note the spectrum analyzer only displays the affected sound on the effects processors, helping
you to pick the best range of frequencies to mix into the track.

16
USER INTERFACE

Killer switches

Killer switches are uniquely designed kill switches that have special graphical band width, frequency and
gain control, that will enable the user to preciously set cut off frequencies to match both the track being
played and the speaker set up in use and then use gain accordingly for each band to get a particular sound.

Here you can use the graphs in a similar way to the graphs on the processors, except the gain is separated
into a fader to the right of each section.

To set the bandwidth, click on the right margin of the width control box (It will highlight Red) and drag
narrower or wider to your desired bandwidth, then click and drag horizontally into position. Set the fader to
boost/Cut as required. Note; you can actually push the Sub bass band further to the left to catch those really
low end frequencies. The default settings cover most user’s needs, and you can adjust according to the track
you are playing and your speaker setup. Some speakers do not handle the real low sub frequencies, therefore
you will need to set Amp FreQQ sub bass band to go a bit higher up, so it will maximize the bass available from
your speaker. May need to move bass band too

It is all about balance please try not to increase a particular band to extremes as this will distort the overall
sound try to keep the master level fixed and adjust inputs, kills and effects as required. With patience you
can really get the best out of your music and your speaker setup with Amp FreQQ.

The VU meter displays the amount of signal being sent out to master from each of the killers

The best way to use the FreQQ, is to play your track , adjust all 6 graphs, then rewind and dub!

you will have the hang of it in no time.

Please take a look at our YouTube, Instagram and Facebook page for videos on how to operate it best.

Settings
Here you can setup all your Audio card settings.

Driver
Select your audio interfaces own driver. Then use the I/O Mappings
to select the correct inputs and outputs. (Input 3 is the mic input)

• ad_mme is a built in audio driver which displays input and output

selections. Input device will go straight to the assignable inputs/
Mic on Amp FreQQ and the output selects your speakers. Use this
if nothing else works.

• You do not need to use anything in the Performance and

Scheduler section

• Input and Output mapping allows you select the channels you
want to use

• Audio Driver settings opens your audio drivers own settings. You
may need to setup separate channels for Mic and Line inputs and
other adjustments or settings here.

I/O Mappings
Here you setup how Amp–FreQQ uses the inputs and outputs.
Generally the 1 and 2 will be left and right inputs and the same for
outputs. If you would like to use a mic as well as the assignable
inputs then you will need to setup input 3 and set it to your audio
cards mic input as a separate channel.

Note. If you audio card and driver do not support 2 separate

channels then you will need to choose between the line input and
Mic. If you want a Mic connected, switch off inputs 1 and 2 and
select input 3 otherwise the mic will play in both assignable and Mic
inputs . If your audio interface has 2 or more separate channels,
then using a combination of the I/O settings and your audio cards
drivers, you can have separate mic and assignable inputs. Mic
channel on Amp FreQQ is input 3.

You could in theory use the assignable inputs to connect an

external hardware mixer. In which case anything you have playing
through the mixer will of course play through Amp- FreQQ.

Amp FreQQ can also play music streamed from your computer. So you can stream from the internet or any
music coming from your audio out.

It may take a while to configure the right settings, but we have tested on several computers and various
se ups and were able to establish connections.

For Windows please download , HIFI Cable here:

https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/#DownloadASIOBridge

You then need to select the HIFI cable as the main default recording driver on your windows sound
properties. In Amp FreQQ open settings and select HIFI cable as the input device and you are good to go.
Or use VB cable from the same website

For MacOS you can use an app called Soundflower:
