IDE FEB 21presentation1

This document discusses different types of drive interfaces, including IDE, SATA, and SCSI. It provides details on what each interface is, what it is used for, and how it works. The learning objectives are to discuss and identify different types of drive interfaces. Without drive interfaces, computers would not be able to connect storage devices like hard drives and optical drives, and thus would not function properly.

LET’S UNLOCK NEW TERM

•Drive Interfaces- the logical

and physical means by which the
hard disk connects to the PC
• Motherboard- the main
printed circuit board that contains
the CPU of a computer and makes
it possible for the other parts of a
computer to communicate with
each other one or more computing
functions within a computer system.
•a.What are the video all about?
•b.Do you know the purpose of
those things? What are those for?
•c.Are they necessary for computers?
•d.Do we really need to know what
are those?
LET’S GO!
TYPES OF DRIVES
INTERFACES
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, 85%
of the learners are expected to:

a.Discuss and identify the

different types of drive interfaces.
What is IDE?
Integrated Drive
Electronics
What is it for?
is designed to provide a
standardized interface
between a computer's
motherboard and its storage
devices, such as hard drives
and optical drives.
The IDE controller is a device that
is used to connect IDE devices to a
computer system. IDE devices
include hard drives, optical drives,
and floppy drives. The IDE
controller allows these devices to
be connected to the computer
system via a single interface.
How it works?
•IDE works by using a flat ribbon
cable with multiple connectors
that attach to the motherboard
and the storage devices.
IDE CABLE
SATA
A serial advanced technology attachment
(serial ATA, SATA or S-ATA) is a computer
bus interface used to connect host bus
adapters with mass storage devices like
optical drives and hard drives.
This interface is commonly used to
connect hard disk drives to a host
system such as a computer
motherboard.
The SATA cable results in a higher
signaling rate, which corresponds to
faster data throughput.
What is SCSI?

It is Small
Computer
System
Interface
SCSI (Small Computer System Interface)
is used to connect and communicate
between computers and peripheral
devices, such as hard disk drives, tape
drives, CD/DVD drives, and scanners.
SCSI was originally developed as both a
protocol and a parallel physical interface.
1.What are the different Drive
Interfaces?
2.What is the other name of IDE?
3.Does it help our computers work
well
4.What do you think will happen if
there are no Drive interfaces?
GROUP ACTIVITY
Each group will draw
one of the different
types of drive
interfaces.

battery and to be fully charge
