1. INTRODUCTION

This document covers the structural design of the Proposed 2-Storey Residential,
located at #71 Villanueva Streey, Brgy. II, Alaminos, Laguna.

The structural system & parameters used, and loading combinations for the
project are considered on the analysis based on codes and standards.

2. DESIGN CRITERIA
2.1 GENERAL CODES AND REFERENCES

The Order of precedence of codes and standards for Construction and Planning
shall be as follows:

a. Client Specified Criteria and Code Requirements (if any)

b. National Structural Code of the Philippines - (NSCP 6TH Edition)
c. Uniform Building Code 1997 - (UBC)
d. American Concrete Institute 318-2005 - (ACI)
e. International Building Code 2006 - (IBC)
f. American Institute of Steel Construction 13th Edition - (AISC)
g. American Society of Civil Engineers 7-05 - (ASCE)
h. Cold Form Steel Structural Framing - (AISI)
i. American Society for Testing and Materials - (ASTM)

2.2 DESIGN LOADS

 Dead Loads

The loads that follow do not include the self-weight of structural members.
Further, except as noted. Specific loading information for the elevators and
mechanical equipment hasn’t been included.

Dead loads shall be determined in accordance with known unit weights of

materials and based on dimensions shown on architectural and structural
drawings.

a. Concrete Unit Weight - 150 pcf / 2400 kg/m³

b. Steel Unit Weight - 490 pcf / 7850 kg/m³
c. Soil Unit Weight – Shall be based on Soil Report
d. Others – Equipment weights shall be based on actual loadings.
e. Superimposed Dead

 Live Loads

Live loads are reducible in accordance with ASCE 7-05 (4.8 Reduction in
Live Loads) except where noted NR (not Reducible).

Loading Description kPa psf

1 Residential Floor 1.9 40
2 Stair & Hallways 4.8 100
3 Roof (Inaccessible) 0.95 20

2.3 LOAD COMBINATION

2.4 MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

 Reinforced Concrete

All Reinforced Concrete work shall conform to ACI 318-08 specifications

(Concrete Quality, Mixing, and Placing) and will have the following minimum
compressive cylinder strength at 28 days:

1. Foundation fc’ = 2,500 psi / 17.25 MPa

2. Columns fc’ = 3,000 psi / 20.7 MPa
3. Slabs and Beams fc’ = 3,000 psi / 20.7 MPa
4. Slab on Grade fc’ = 2,500 psi / 17.25 MPa
5. Stairs fc’ = 3,000 psi / 20.7 MPa

Proposed 2-Storey Residence | Structural Calculation 3

 Reinforcing Steel

All reinforcement shall be deformed bars conforming to the requirements as

specified below and meet bend requirement of ASTM A617.

1. Diameter 10 & 16 fy = 40,000 psi / 275 MPa

2. Diameter 20 to 36 fy = 60,000 psi / 414 MPa

2.5 STRUCTURAL DESIGN STANDARD

 Structural Calculation Guidelines

a. Structural calculations shall be performed using currently accepted methods of

analysis and design.

b. Structural analysis and design shall incorporate all gravity loads, lateral
loads/forces and static equivalent forces imposed upon the structure, including
design live loads. Lateral forces consist of loadings from wind, earthquake, sway,
impact, and lateral soil pressures. Static equivalent loads shall include earthquake
loading.

c. Loading combinations shall follow current acceptable standards.

d. Structural calculations shall be performed in a neatly organized and orderly

fashion. All pages shall be fully titled and sequentially numbered and all volumes
appropriately indexed. References to engineering analysis and design books shall
be noted where occurring.

e. Structural calculations performed by computer shall be organized, indexed and

sufficiently identified on input forms and output data such that all data can be
collated. Programs descriptions shall include the principles of analysis used in the
programs. Programs used shall be sufficiently documented that input data and
output data is readily understandable.

 Computer Programs

The drawing of the mathematical model used to represent the structure in the
computer-generated analysis shall be provided. Calculations may include the
results from an electronic digital computer analysis used as follows:

 STAAD Pro
 SP Structure Point Programs
 MS Excel Programs

2.6 DESIGN PHILOSOPY

 Concrete Design

a. Reference and Codes

 National Structural Code of the Philippines 6TH Edition
 American Concrete Institute 318-08
 Uniform Building Code 1997

b. Philosophy

The structure shall be designed using Ultimate Design method based in the
references above. Other methodology can be used (e.g. Working Stress
Design) as deemed necessary to comply with the serviceability and
strength.

c. Detailing

The structure shall be detailed based on the code and references shown
above. Special detailing based on seismic requirement shall be based on
Detailing Manual of ACI.

3. COMPUTER SOFTWARE

The project was analyzed using commercial software STAAD, 3D Building

System.

Input parameters are presented to guide the checker on his review.

Structural elements are modeled as follows:

1. Floor Elements – Plate Elements

2. Columns and Beams – Line Elements
3. Rafters and Purlins – Line Elements
