The Challenge of Writing a Thesis on Photosynthesis for GCSE Coursework

Writing a thesis on photosynthesis for GCSE coursework can be a daunting task for many students.
The complexity of the subject matter, combined with the rigorous academic standards expected at
this level, often makes it a challenging endeavor. From understanding the intricate biochemical
processes involved in photosynthesis to conducting comprehensive research and presenting findings
in a coherent and compelling manner, there are numerous hurdles that students may encounter along
the way.

One of the primary difficulties students face when writing a thesis on photosynthesis is grasping the
intricate details of the process itself. Photosynthesis is a fundamental biological process that involves
numerous biochemical reactions, pathways, and regulatory mechanisms. Understanding these
concepts thoroughly requires a deep dive into biology, chemistry, and even physics, which can be
overwhelming for many students.

Additionally, conducting research on photosynthesis and gathering relevant data to support the thesis
can be a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. Sorting through vast amounts of scientific
literature, designing and conducting experiments, and analyzing results require patience, attention to
detail, and advanced research skills.

Furthermore, structuring and organizing the thesis in a coherent and logical manner poses another
challenge. From crafting a compelling introduction to presenting a clear hypothesis, conducting a
thorough literature review, and providing evidence-based arguments, students must navigate through
various sections of the thesis with precision and clarity.

in a water plant, like the pondweed, as long as the plant is fully submerged in water at all times, this
will not be a problem. My prediction is right because I said the for the first experiment because I
didn’t use the bulb and the whether wasn’t that hot, the further the bulb is away from the weed the
smaller amount of oxygen is being produce and the closer the bulb is to the weed the more oxygen is
being produce, the bulb is helping the reaction, a lot. New! Bioenergetics lesson bundle for GCSE

the pondweed to the Audus apparatus. Chlorophyll easily absorbs blue light, in the 400-450 nm
range, and also easily absorbs red light, in the 650-700 nm range. Here, it was in fact at a light
intensity of around 950 when it seems that another factor such as temperature or carbon dioxide
concentration has become a limiting factor. Another reason why the experiment didn’t go so well was
because was the temperature of the bulb changed the process of photosynthesis when got close,
meaning when the bulb was 20 cm way from the weed that temperature of the weed wasn’t the same
has when its 2 cm way from each other, see at 20cm most of the light is just being wasted and not
going to the weed and at 2cm almost all of the light is going to the weed. To do this, I placed a piece
of Canadian pondweed in varying light intensities, and observed the amount of oxygen being given
off. Obviously affixing a gas syringe to the top of the boiling tube would be far more reliable, but I
doubt that there would be a sufficient volume of CO 2 in a short time (max 3 mins) produced to
make a considerable difference when reading the volume of gas produced by the Elodea specimen.
The leaf plays a major part in the process of photosynthesis, as it takes in the light which is later on
made to glucose. My current year 11s have found these particularly useful to go through in revision
lessons and have taken extra home to use as revision tools. I drew it as a curve rather than a straight
line because of the clear pattern of the points. Bundle AQA GCSE: B8 Photosynthesis: Sequence of

contains chlorophyll (or other photosynthetic pigments) while the rest does not. However the higher
the light intensity, the higher the rate of photosynthesis.

months ago report 5 Fantastic. The first 10cm it drops from 8 to 6mm, that’s 2mm decrease, the
pattern is the line going more downer by the mm when the cm is rising. Yet, when the distances were
more than 40cm, there was only a maximum of one bubble produced every other minute (ie. ? a
bubble per minute). The way I got the figures for the graphs were by averaging the numbers. This is
due to the fact that this temperature is neither too hot nor too cold it is the ideal temperature for
photosynthesis to take place. Perfect for KS3 Science and lessons can easily be adapted for GCSE

ScienceTeacherXX's Shop 4.45 458 reviews Not the right resource. Here, the energy of a photon is
used to transfer electrons from one chlorophyll pigment to the next. As light intensity increases, the
photosynthetic rate is being limited by certain factors, such as carbon dioxide and temperature. This
was because photosynthesis is a reaction, which needs energy from light to work, so as the amount
of energy available from light increased with the rise in light intensity, so did the amount of oxygen
produced as a product of photosynthesis. To alter the light intensity, I placed a lamp at various
distances from the plant. Improvements could have been made as I have stated, mainly by simply
increasing the time taken. However, this was eliminated by putting the boiling tube into a water bath
which absorbed the majority of the heat energy from the lamp, and by keeping the specimen far
away enough from the lamp for there to be no significant change in temperature. The appearance of
tables could be improved by better aligning the columns and ensuring all numbers are recorded to the
same number of decimal places. Write a review Update existing review Submit review Cancel It's

It could also be interesting to explore the effects of coloured lights on the rate of photosynthesis,
which could lead to the question of whether or not other types of light, such as fluorescent lights or
halogen lights, would have a different effect on the rate of photosynthesis. To alter the light

One of the variegated leaves is selected and exposed to light. Slides are written to be self-

of light. Insert a thermometer into the beaker, and record the temperature at the beginning and end of
each experiment, merely as a precaution against a significant rise in temperature, which is not
expected. Another reason why the experiment didn’t go so well was because was the temperature of

dioxide would increase the rate of photosynthesis, until it levels off. Firstly, the distance between the
light sources and the Canadian Pondweed were not measured to a very high degree of accuracy,
especially when you note the fact that the distance should have been measured exactly from the
filament of the light bulb to the centre of the plant, and it is possible here to find a percentage error.
