1885 – INC Congress started by Allen Octavian HUME with Dadabhi Naroji and Dinshaw in Bombay

with the objective of independence

4 meetings of congress in 1985 Mumbai, 1986 Calcutta, 1987 Chennai, 1988 Allahabad

1905 – Partition of Bengal at this time Viceroy was Lord Carzon so that the unity of Bengal can be
broken called East Bengal aka Dakka at that time and West Bengal aka Calcutta at that time. Surendra
Natha Banerjee called a meeting at the TOWN HALL of Calcutta called SWADESHI MOVEMENT

1906 – All India Muslim League established by Md Ali Jinnah, Aga Khan and Salliah Kham in Dhaka
but headquarters at Lucknow. Objective – for the benefit of Muslims in British India

1907 – Congress Divide called Surat Split the new leaders wanted to fight like the British to gain
independence. Leaders for Peace Naram Dal (Old) – Gopal Krishna Gokhale (MG’s mentor) – Leaders
for Fight Garam Dal – Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Lal Bal Pal) – Got divided into Congress Moderate i.e.,
Naram Dal and Congress Extremist Garam Dal

1909 – Morley Minto Bill for (Communal Election) – gave special seats to Muslims and Hindus
according to population so migration started – it was a divide and rule policy so first idea of Pakistan
came i.e., seed by British

1911 – Delhi capital shift (Delhi Darbaar) – It was shifted from Calcutta as in the middle to all the
places – Chief Guest was – George V and Queen Mary – Here Rabindra Nath Tagore sang the National
Anthem for the first time for which he was also granted Knighthood. Stopped Bengal Divide of WB
and EB but did not happen – they broke Bihar and Orissa from Bengal

1913 – Gadar Party – San Fransisco – Lala Hadaryal founder said India Ke bahar se Gadar karenge

1915 – Mahatma Gandhi came back to India on 9 th January – He lived in Tolstoy in South Africa and
his friend was Pollock – next year he established the Sabarmati Ashram in 1916

1916 – Lucknow Pact – INC and Muslim League joined by Bal Gangadhar Tilak

1916 – Home Rule Movement by Bal Ganga Dhar Tilak (Pune) to unite the Indians and launched 2
newspapers named Maratha and Kesari – he was joined by Anne Besant (Madras) who launched 2
newspapers Common and New India

1917 – CHAMPARAN MOVEMENT – in Bihar by Mahatma Gandhi to give rights to Bihar farmers –
was called by RK Shukla (1st movement of Mahatma Gandhi)

1918 – Mahatma Gandhi’s first Hunger Movement in Allahabad to give labour their rights and also
established the Allahabad Labour Association

1919 – KALA KANOON (ROWLATT ACT) By this Act British could arrest anyone without any reason.
Jallianwala Bagh massacre happened in Amritsar which was ordered by General Dyer – Hans Raj
closed 2nd gate – Viceroy was Lord Chelmsford

1919 – Monstey Chelsfold Act – Dyarchy established GOI Act 1919 and other communal seats

1920 to 1922 – Non-Cooperation Movement by Mahatma Gandhi (peaceful protest) he returned


Kesari Hind title back; Rabindra Nath Tagore also retuned Knighthood title in 1919
1922 – Chauri Caura in Gorakhpur as police killed someone and so Indians set ablaze Gorakhpur
Police Station which resulted in the death of 23 police officers

1919 – KHILAFAT MOVEMENT IN TURKEY – finished Khalifa so Indian Muslims protested and the
movement was started by Ali Brothers (M Ali and Shoukat Ali). British divided Turkey into two parts
