off) potential of 0.38V. Calculate the work function of the emitter plate. (Ans: 3.45 eV)
2. In a photoelectric experiment, the wavelength of the light incident on metal is changed from 300 nm
to 400 nm and (hc/e = 1240 nm-V). Find the decrease in the stopping potential. (Ans: 1V)
3. When ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 230 nm shines on a particular metal plate, electrons are
emitted from plate 1, crossing the gap to plate 2 and causing a current to flow through the wire
connecting the two plates The battery voltage is gradually increased until the current in the ammeter
drops to zero, at which point the battery voltage is 1.30 V. (Ans: 5.17 eV, 1.30V)

stopping potential? (Ans: (a) 3.8×1014 Hz (b) 0.91 V)
6. The work function of a photoelectric material is 4.0 eV.
(a) What is the threshold wavelength?
(b) Find the wavelength of light for which the stopping potential is 2.5 V.
(Ans: (a) 310 nm (b) 191 nm)
7. When a metal plate is exposed to a monochromatic beam of light of wavelength 400 nm, a negative
potential of 1.1 V is needed to stop the photo current. Find the threshold wavelength for the metal.
(Ans: 620 nm)
8. A radiation of wave length is incident on a metal a and a graph is plotted between the stopping
potential and 1 λ . What information do you obtain from the following:
(a) Slope (b) Intercept on x-axis (c) Intercept on y-axis Also draw the graph for metal B whose work
function is double that of A
9. Ultraviolet light is incident on two photosensitive materials having work functions W 1 and W2
(W1 >> W2). In which case will the kinetic energy of the emitted electrons be greater? Why?
(Ans: E=hν –W, smaller W means greater kinetic energy, as W1> W2, K.E for material having work

observations are recorded: (1) For Surface P: No photoelectric emission occurs. (2) For Surface Q;
Photo emission occurs but photoelectrons have zero kinetic energy. What conclusion can you draw
from these observations?
[Ans: (1) This means energy of incident photon is less than the work function) (2) This means
energy of incident photon is equal to the work function]
