1. Add or subtract numbers with the same sign by adding or subtracting their absolute values. 2. Add or subtract numbers with different signs by subtracting the absolute value of the number with the smaller absolute value from the number with the larger absolute value. 3. Multiply numbers by keeping track of the number of negatives. An even number of negatives gives a positive product, and an odd number of negatives gives a negative product. 4. Divide numbers by keeping track of the number of negatives. A positive number divided by a negative number or a negative number divided by a positive number gives a negative quotient.

Common Misunderstanding:
“Two minuses
−4 − 10 = 14 make a plus!”
What did they do wrong?
Two minuses only become a plus when they’re next to each other.
If we think about a number line can ?see the above doesn’t make sense.
