Active and Passive Voice

Active Voice = Subject + Verb + Object.

Passive Voice = Object + helping verb + main verb V3 + by + subject.

1) My mother loves me.(Active voice)


I am loved by my mother.(Passive voice)

2) He writes a letter.(Active voice)


A letter is written by him. (Passive voice)

3) Rajani celebrates her birthday.(Active voice)


Birthday of Rajani is celebrated by herself.(Passive voice)

Active voice = Subject + do/does + not + main verb + Object.

Passive Voice = Object + helping verb + not + main verb V3 + by + Subject.

1) Rahul does not read Hindi.(Active voice)


Hindi is not read by Rahul. (Passive voice)

2) Teachers do not punish students nowadays.(Active voice)


Students are not punished by teachers nowadays. (Passive voice)

3) I do not water plants everyday. ( Active voice)


Plants are not watered by me everyday.(Passive voice)

4) She does not like books. ( Active voice)


Books are not liked by her. (Passive voice)

1) Do you play PUB-G? ( Active voice)


Is PUB-G play by you? (Passive voice)

2) Do you give food to the beggar? ( Active voice)


Is food given to the beggar by you? (Passive voice)

3) Does she wash your clothes? (Active voice)


Are clothes washed by her? (Passive voice)

4) Does your mother give you money? (Active voice)


Is money given to you by your mother? ( Passive voice)

Present Continues Tense


1) Rani is playing cricket. ( Active voice)
Cricket is being played by Rani. (Passive voice)

2) Are you teaching the students? ( Active voice)


Are the students being taught by you. (Passive voice)

3) He is not beating Kunal. ( Active voice)


Kunal is not being beaten by him. (Passive voice)

4) Why are you not celebrating your birthday? ( Active voice)


Why is your birthday not being celebrated by you? ( Passive voice)

5) She is calling you. (Active voice)


You are being called by her. ( Passive voice)

Present Perfect Tense


(Active voice = has / have & Passive voice = has /
have been)

1) Pooja has completed the work. ( Active voice)


The work has been completed by Pooja. (Passive voice)

2) She has sung a song. ( Active voice)


A song has been sung by her. (Passive voice)

3) Have you killed the snake? ( Active voice)


Has the snake been killed by you? (Passive voice)

4) Why have they not completed the project in time? ( Active voice)
Why has the project not been completed by them in time? (Passive voice)

Present Perfect Continues Tense

Continues Tense)

Past Indefinite Tense (Simple past tense)

1) India won the match. (Active voice)


The match was won by India. (Passive voice)

2) Did you give him the books? (Active voice)


Was he given the books by you? (Active voice)

3) He did not call you. (Active voice)


You were not called by him. (Passive voice)

4) Ramesh plucked the flower. ( Active voice)


The flower was plucked by Ramesh. (Passive voice)

Past continues Tense(Being Verb Third Form)

1) Mr Ravi was teaching English. ( Active voice)


English was being taught by Mr Ravi. (Passive voice)

2) You were driving a Car. ( Active voice)


A car was driven by you. (Passive voice)

3) Were you cooking the food? (Active voice)


Was the food being cooked by you? (Passive voice)
Past Perfect Tense

1) He had sung a song. ( Active voice)


A song had been sung by him. (Passive voice)

2) Rakesh had sent the message. ( Active voice)


The message had been sent by Rakesh. (Passive voice)

3) Rani had taught us English. (Active voice)


We had been taught English by rani. (Passive voice)

4) Had Vikram built the house? ( Active voice)


Had the house been built by Vikram? (Passive voice)

Future Indefinite Tense( Simple Future Tense)

Active voice = Subject + will / shall + main verb first form + Object.

Passive voice = Object + will be / shall be + main verb third form + Subject.

1) Will you take the class? (Active voice)


Will the class be taken by you? (Passive voice)

2) He will teach you English. ( Active voice)


English will be taught by him. (Passive voice)

3) Rani will give you an opportunity. (Active voice)


You will be given an opportunity by Rani. (Passive voice.)

# Future Continues Tense There is no Passive


voice in this.

Future Perfect Tense


Active voice = Subject + will / shall + have + verb third form + Object.
Passive voice = Object + will/ shall + Have been + verb third form + by +
Subject.

1) We shall not have accepted the offer. ( Active voice)


The offer will not have been accepted by us. (Passive voice)

2) She will have finished her work. (Active voice)


Her work with have been finished by her. ( Passive voice)

3) Will they have caught the train? ( Active voice)


Will the train have been caught by them? (Passive voice)

Passive voice with modals

Object + Modal verb + be + Main verb Third form.

Modal Verb = Can, Could, Should, May, Might.

In this Section of Passive voice , The “by + Sub “ is not use.

1) He can be given a chance. (Passive voice)


2) You should be punished. (Passive voice)
3) He should not be allowed in class. (Passive voice)
4) Should this watch be baught? (Passive voice)

1) I can answer the question. (Active voice)


The question can be answered by me. (Passive voice)

2) You have to wash the car. (Active voice)


The car have to be washed by you. (Passive voice)
3) He must fill in the form. (Active voice)
The form must be filled by him. (Passive voice)

4) Could jai lalita lock the door? ( Active voice)


Could the door be locked by Jai lalita? ( Passive voice)

5) Why could he not read the sentence? (Active voice)


Why could the sentence not be read by him? ( Passive voice)

6) You should open the window. (Active voice)


The window should be opened by you. (Passive voice)

Advance Rules of Passive voice

Prepositional phrases never change.

1) They locked for the baby. (Active voice)


The baby was locked for. (Passive voice)

2) They listen to music. (Active voice)


Music is listened to. (Passive voice)
3) Someone shouted at her. (Active voice)
She was Shouted at. (Passive voice)

# No need to write subject everytime.

1) The Police arrested the thief. (Active voice)


The thief was arrested. (Passive voice)

2) We should obey the rules. (Active voice)


The rules should be obeyed. (Passive voice)

3) Someone stole the watch. ( Active voice)


The watch was Stolen.(Passive voice)

# No need to use “By” everytime.


1) He knows you. (Active voice)
You are known to him (Passive voice)

Use “to” with Married, know, obliged.

Use “At” with Laughed, Surprised, annoyed, shouted, disappointed,


distressed etc.

Use “Of “with Pleased, disguised, impressed.

Use “In” with Interested, Consisted, absorbed, contained.
