ETACS (Electric Time Alarm Control System) / BCM (Body Control Module)
1. Overview of ETACS
ETACS, which stands for “electric time alarm control system,” controls the car’s convenience
devices. Among the car’s electric devices, it integrates those operated by time or that sound off
an alarm to inform the driver of a car-related condition that requires attention.
2. Main Control Functions of ETACS
ETACS has different control items according to the vehicle model. The luxury car has more
control functions. The following items are the common items controlled by ETACS, regardless
of the model.

3. Function per Item

3.1 Washer Interlocking Wiper Control
• At IG ON, if the washer is ON, after
0.6 sec, the wiper motor output will
be ON. If the washer is OFF, the
wiper output will be ON for 2.5~3.8
sec.
• When operating the INT wiper, turn
the washer ON for 0.6 sec or more
and the washer interlocking wiper
output will automatically be turned
ON.
3.2 INT Wiper and Speed-sensing Wiper
When the driver sets the wiper at AUTO

and controls the time control switch, the
operating period of the INT wiper will
automatically be adjusted according to Car speed INT wiper

3.3 Heat Wire Timer Control

• At IG ON (alternator charging ON), if
the heat wire is ON, the heat wires of
the rear glass and the side mirror will
be ON for 20 min.
• During output, if the heat wire switch
is pressed again, the heat wire output
will be OFF.
• During output, if IG OFF, the heat
wire timer output will be OFF.
3.4 Seatbelt Warning Timer Control

• If the feature is ON, the seatbelt warning
lamp on the cluster will be ON for 0.6 sec,
and the chime bell will sound off for 6 sec,
at 0.9 intervals.
• Within the operation time, if the seatbelt
control is OFF (to fasten the seatbelt), the
chime bell will immediately stop but the
seatbelt warning lamp will still be ON for
the remaining time.
3.5 Power Window Timer Control
• At IG ON, the power window relay will
function to drive the power windows.
• At IG OFF, the power window relay will
remain ON for 30 sec and will then shut
OFF.
• If the driver’s or front passenger’s door is
open, the power window relay output will
shut OFF immediately.
3.6 Ignition Keyhole Light Control

• At IG OFF, if the driver’s or front
passenger’s door is open, the keyhole
light will be ON.
• In the case above, if the driver’s or front
passenger’s door is closed, the keyhole
light will be ON for 10 sec and will then
shut OFF.
• During the above operations, if IG ON,
the IG keyhole light will be OFF.
3.7 Door Open Warning Control (Chime Bell)

• If the IG key is inserted in the IG keyhole
and the driver’s door is open, the chime
bell will be ON at 0.9 sec intervals.
• If the IG key is removed from the IG
keyhole or the driver’s door is closed, the
chime bell will immediately stop.
3.8 Sensitive Room Lamp Control
• When the door is opened (door S/W ON),
the room lamp will be ON. When it is
closed (door S/W OFF), the room lamp
will dim by 75%, will continue dimming
slowly, and will shut OFF after 4~6 sec.
• This feature prevents the door from being
closed with the IG key still inserted in the
IG keyhole.
3.9 Ignition Key Removal Function

• With the IG key inserted in the IG
keyhole, if the driver’s and front
passenger’s doors are open and are later
locked by knob, the unlock output is
generated for 1 sec to stop the door from
being locked.
• This feature prevents the door from being
closed with the IG key still inserted in the
IG keyhole.
3.10 Centralized Door Lock Control
• If the driver’s power window lock is ON,

all the doors will be locked.
• If the driver’s power window lock is
OFF, all the doors will be unlocked.
3.11 Auto Door Lock Control

• When a car speed of over 40 km/h is inputted into ETACS, the door lock actuators of all
the doors will be locked.
• When the car speed is less than 40 km/h, the unlock signal is not outputted.
3.12 Impact-sensing Unlock Control
When an impact is detected, all the doors

will be locked. According to the model,
impact data are received from the impact-
detecting sensor or A/BAG ECU.
3.13 Burglar Warning Alarm Control

• After the IG key is removed
from the IG keyhole, if the
lock button on the remote-
control device is pressed and
the four door switches, the
hood switch, the trunk switch,
and the door lock actuator
switch are OFF, ETAC will
operate the siren and
emergency lamp blinking and
will enter into the burglar
warning mode.
• At the burglar warning mode,
if any door switch is ON, the
siren operation and ignition
relay will be controlled to
prevent ignition.
3.14 LAMP AUTO CUT / Battery Saver Control

• With the tail lamps ON, if the IG key is removed from the IG keyhole and the driver’s
door is open, the tail lamp relay will turn the tail lamps OFF.
• With the IG key inserted in the IG keyhole, if the driver’s door is open and the key is
removed, the tail lamps will shut OFF automatically.
• When the tail lamps have automatically shut OFF, if the tail lamps have been turned
OFF→ON→OFF, they will be ON and the auto cut function will be released.
• Headlamp escort function: It brightens a dark aisle or road by operating the headlamp
relay for 30 sec after the key is removed when the tail lamps and headlamps are ON.
3.15 Relative Remote Control
• Keyless entry control

The car’s doors can be locked/unlocked via remote control.
• Remotecon ignition function
With door lock by remotecon, if the ENG button is pressed via remotecon after the
emergency lamp is turned ON and then the lock button is pressed, the engine can be
started remotely.
• Remotecon power window and folding mirror control
- If the remotecon UNLOCK button is operated for 5 sec or more, the windows will go
down.
- If the remotecon LOCK button is operated for 5 sec or more, the windows will go up.
- When the remotecon LOCK button is pressed twice, the folding mirror will be folded.
- When the remotecon UNLOCK button is pressed twice, the folding mirror will be
unfolded.
• Trunk unlock control
When the remotecon trunk button is pressed, ETACS controls the trunk solenoid.
