Main Girder Capacity Calculation:

Cross Sectional Area, A= Area of flange + Area of web

= 89.355 in2
Moment of Inertia, I = 2*(bh3/12+Ad2) + bh3/12
=39227.959 in4
Section Modulus, S = I/C
=1780.684 in3

Length of girder, =12.0 m = 39.36 ft.

Allowable Stress, Fb=0.66 Fy

=0.66*50 (Considering 50 grade of steel)
=33 ksi

We Know, Fb=MC/I

So, M=58762.588 kip-in

=4896.882 kip-ft

Maximum moment at support Wl2/2 = 4896.882 kip-ft. [ l= Effective length]

Effective Length, l = (Length of Beam/2 – Width of Rocker Plate/2)

= 16.90 ft

So, W= 34.306 kip/ft

Net Capacity = (W- Self wt of beam/ft)

= 34.002 Kip/ft

Load Capacity for one Girder = 34.002 *39.37

= 1338.67 kip
= 607.09 MT

[NB. Considering 1kip = 2000lb]

Here,
Design load of test pile = 397.72 MT
Test Load of test pile= 795.43 MT
Capacity of single beam found = 607.09 MT
So, Number of Main Beams required = (795.43/607.09)
= 1.31 Nos.
So, using two (2) Nos Main beam (1200 m* 550 mm) is considered safe for conducting
above-mentioned test.

Cross Girder Capacity Calculation:

Cross Sectional Area, A= Area of flange + Area of web

= 25.916 in2

Moment of Inertia, I = 2*(bh3/12+Ad2) + bh3/12

= 2568.155 in4

Section Modulus, S = I/C

= 232.292 in3

Length of girder, = 12.00m = 39.36 ft

Allowable Stress, Fb= 0.66 Fy

= 0.66*50 (Considering 50 grade of steel)
= 33 ksi

We Know, Fb=MC/I

So, M= 7665.643 kip-in

= 638.804 kip-ft

Maximum moment at support Wl2/2 = 638.804

Effective Length, l = (Length of Beam/2 – Width of 2 Nos Main Beam/2)

= 17.88 ft

So, W= 3.996 kip/ft

Net Capacity = (W- Self wt of beam/ft)
= 3.908 Kip/ft

Load Capacity for one Girder = 3.908 *39.36

= 153.86 kip
= 69.78 MT

[NB. Considering 1kip = 2000lb]

Here,

Design load of test pile = 397.72 MT

Test Load of test pile= 795.43 MT
Imposed load on Kentledge (Considering 15% additional load) = 914.74 MT which was
considered 920 MT as round figure.
Capacity of single beam found = 69.78 MT
So, Number of Cross Beams required = (920/69.78)
= 13.19 Nos. considered 20 Nos for making the
platform size bigger.
So, using twenty (20) Nos Cross beam (600 m* 250 mm) is considered safe for conducting
above-mentioned test.
