CHESS
TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS
I. TOURNAMENT RULES
The tournament shall be governed by FIDE Laws of Chess (July 01, 2017) and the following ground rules:
B. The individual Round-Robin System (7 Rounds) with team result shall be adopted in the elementary level/ one
Individual round-robin system (5 rounds) for secondary level.
C. Chess Clock
1. Use of clock is compulsory.
D. There shall be separate championship for the girls and boys in each DIVISION.
1. TEAM STANDARD
Secondary – Boys and Girls
Elementary – Boys and Girls
2. INDIVIDUAL STANDARD
Individual Championship – The standing of the players after the end of the competition and tie breaks.
F. Players, coaches and spectators are allowed to make post game analysis, play against other coaches, spectators,
players or discuss finished on or unfinished games within the playing area.
G. players are not allowed to eat at the playing area while the game is in progress. They ask the permission of the
chess official to leave the playing area for this purpose on their own time.
H. Players who have finished their games should leave the playing area immediately after submitting their score
sheet.
I. Players must observe proper dress code while playing.
The following are prohibited:
A. STANDARD CHESS
1. Time control shall be (1) hour to finished the game using the chess clock.
2. Recording moves in algebraic notation in NOT mandatory
3. Illegal moves.
Wrong moves of pawn/piece, exposing the king to an attack, capturing the opponent’s king non- replacement
Of piece after pawn promotion, using two hands in making a move, and displacement of piece/s in the chess board
4. Penalties
1st Offense – Warning
2nd Offense – loss of the game
5. The defaulting time is 30 minutes after the official starts of each round.
The wall clock inside the playing area shall be the official clock during the tournament.
TIE BREAKS
The following tie break system (in descending order of priority shall be adopted to determine the final ranking)
1. Direct encounter
2. The greater number of win.
3. Sonneborn-Berger
4. Koya system
5. More number of black wins
A sudden death match (armagedon) shall be played to resolve the ties still occurs after playing all tie breaks.
A. Mobile phones and other means of electronic communication are strictly prohibited inside the playing area.
A player who will violate this rule shall lose his/her game.
B. A team whose member is giving unsolicited advice or assistance to his team mate while the games are in
progress shall lose their match.
IV. COLLATILLA
All other matters not covered in these rules shall be decided by the Chess Technical Officials.
The Chess Tournament Committee reserves the right to amend or alter any provision of the above
mentioned Rules and Regulations for the success and interest of the tournament.
