a). For PX036 - PX150: Internally trapped ABS plastic material drain pan is provided as a standard on all these units.
This eliminates the need for field installation of condensate P-traps which saves time & money.
b). For PX185 - PX300: Drain pan is provided under the cooling coil and incorporates 3/4" NPT coupling connection
on both ends. The insulated drain pan is made of G-90 galvanized steel with mastic coated liner for additional
corrosion protection.
2. Insulation:
Insulation is supplied in adequate thickness and density to prevent condensation from forming on the unit casing. Insu-
lation meets the requirements of NFPA 90A and is protected against deterioration and errosion from air currents.

G. Evaporator Fan
Fans are of centrifugal type with forward curved blades capable of handling total required CFM & static pressure in the
low and medium ranges. Casing and impeller is made of galvanized steel. Fan drive is through adjustable pitch pulleys
and belt driven. Blower motor is mounted on anti vibration pads on adjustable base and secured by locking device. Fan
wheels, shaft and bearing are selected to operate at 25% below first critical speed. Pillow block bearings are selected for
at least 200,000 hours average life at design operating conditions. Shaft is turned, ground and polished from solid steel.
Fans and pulleys are keyed to shafts and designed for continuous operation at maximum motor horse power and fan
speed. All rotating components and assemblies are statically and dynamically balanced and every unit is vibration tested
before shipment from the factory.
Models PX036 & PX048 are with direct drive motors.

H. Electronic control board

These packaged units have the following unique features which have been engineered with innovations that guarantee
years of performance and customer satisfaction.
Systemiser™ Microprocessor Based Electronic Control Board, incorporate the following features.
- Compressor Lockout. If any of the unit's safety controls trip due to abnormal conditions the Electronic Controls
lockout the compressor, preventing restart, unless attended by service personnel. The unit can be re-started only by
reset of thermostat after ensuring safe system conditions.
- Lead/Lag of Compressor. Programmed selectable to automatic timing between compressors during start to equalize
operating hours.
- Anti-recycle timer for compressor safety in case of accidental manual reset or immediate recycling of thermostat due
to load demand.
In units with pumpdown system, the Time Delay create the required delay between the solenoid opening and compres-
sor start to equalize the pressure in the system prior to compressor start up.
- Indicator LED lights:
Green - Power ON
Red - Fault indication

OPTIONS AND ACCESSORIES

A. Zone control
Total comfort zone control systems are available up to 19 zones and can provide a comfortable temperature to each
zone/room.

B. Roof Curb
Roof Curb accessory is shipped disassembled. It is made from 16 gauge galvanized steel with wood nailer strip and
capable of supporting unit weight.
The roof curb can be ordered and installed by the contractor early in the construction stage itself for installing and
securing the ductwork to the curb prior to unit mounting.

7
C. Economizer
The economizer permits low-cost operation by utilizing cool outdoor air for free cooling. A damper on the economizer
controls the amount of outdoor air and on closed position it provides a leak proof seal. It can easily be adjusted for 100%
outdoor air, 100% return air or any proportions of mixed air.

D. Solid state economizer and enthalpy controls

Economizer utilizes cool outside air to satisfy cooling load to minimize energy consumption by maintaining poise be-
tween outside air intake and compressor operation when required as per load demand.
- The Economizer is operative either by a dry bulb Outdoor Air Thermostat (OAT) or a Solid State Enthalpy Controller
(EC) to sense the outdoor air temperature. The unit is equipped with an electronic control board, the PsychroTroll™
with a sensitive feedback system carefully modulating the damper to allow correct percentage of fresh air and return air.
The PsychroTroll™ is designed to match with Zamil electronic thermostat.
OPERATIONAL DETAILS:
Economizer operation is governed by outdoor temperature and unit OAT setting.
1. Outdoor Temperature > Outdoor Air Thermostat (OAT) setting:
If the thermostat calls for cooling, the Economizer damper moves to minimum position, simultaneously blower motor,
compressor 1 & fan motors would start.
If further cooling is required, compressor 2 also starts with a time delay. After the thermostat is satisfied the Compres-
sors are staged out. The PsychroTroll™ controls moves the damper automatically to closed position simultaneously
the blower is also shutdown.
2. Outdoor Temperature < Outdoor Air Thermostat (OAT) setting:
As the cooling load would be low, the PsychroTroll™ will operate as stage 1 of cooling system first switching ON the
blower motor simultaneously modulating the damper in steps to required position, allowing the cool outside Air into
indoor side. If further cooling is required compressor 1 & fan motors will switch ON as stage 2 of the system, whereas
compressor 2 is pulled out of service. As the room temperature is attained, Economizer controls will cut-off the com-
pressor, fan motors simultaneously closing damper to fully closed position.

E. Enthalpy Sensor
The solid state enthalpy sensor is capable of accurately sensing outdoor air enthalpy content (temperature & humidity)
and controlling the economizer damper. Thereby, providing an efficient, economical system operation.

F. Manual Damper
Manual damper package consists of damper, birdscreen and rainhood which can be adjusted to admit up to 50% outdoor
air for year round ventilation.

G. Electric Heaters
Electric heaters are of the resistance open coil type and conform to the requirements of UL 573 or equivalent. Electrical
characteristics, kW capacities and number of stages are as indicated. Airflow switches, fusible links and overheat limit
thermostats are provided to shut-off power in case of airflow failure/overheat.

H. Electronic Thermostats
General Informations: Single stage or two stage thermostats provide low voltage control of one or two stage heating and/or
cooling applications. The thermostat normally displays room temperature, mode of operation and which system is currently on.
You may select different heating and cooling setpoints for the systems to maintain (example 700F in heating and 750F in
cooling). Raising or lowering the setpoints in heating or cooling is as simple as pushing a button.
The thermostat also allows you to select continuous fan operation, (useful when using an electronic air cleaner), or have
the fan on intermittent operation with the equipment.
The thermostat is best located about 1500 mm (5 Ft.) above floor level, on a partition wall (not an outside wall), and
should not be exposed to direct light from lamps, sun etc. It should be in return air stream, away from supply air registers/
diffusers.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
1. Determine cooling and heating capacity requirements at design conditions
Data:
Condenser entering air temperature : 950F
Evaporator entering air temperature : 800F DB / 670F WB
Evaporator airflow : 2,000 CFM
Required cooling capacity : 57,000 BTUH
Sensible heat capacity : 40,000 BTUH
Required heating capacity : 10 kW
External static pressure : 0.22 INCH WG.
Power supply (V-Ph-Hz) : 208/230-3-60
Unit type : Downward discharge with economizer option.

2. Unit selection based on required cooling capacity

Enter cooling capacity performance data at condenser entering air temp. at 950F and evaporator entering air temp. 800F
DB, 670F WB, 2000 CFM airflow. The PX060 unit will give 59,050 BTUH cooling capacity (gross) and 44,870 BTUH
sensible heat capacity (gross).

3. Electric heater selection

Heating capacity required = 10 kW.
Enter electric heating table for PX060 at 208/230-3-60 power supply.
10 kW heater at 208/230 volts satisfies the required heating.

4. Determine fan speed and power requirements at design conditions

Before entering the fan performance tables, calculate the summation of external static pressure for the required compo-
nents as follows.

External static pressure : 0.22 INCH WG.

Electric heater : 0.13 INCH WG.
Economizer : 0.05 INCH WG.
0.4 INCH WG.
Enter fan performance table for PX060 model. For 2000 CFM and external static pressure of 0.4 INCH WG, it require
1040 RPM and 0.74 brake horse power (BHP) wherein the standard motor will meet job requirements.

5. Determine input power to motor

Use fan motor efficiency table.
BHP x 746 watts 0.74 x 746
Blower motor watts = = = 682 watts.
Motor efficiency 0.81

6. Determine net capacities

Above capacities are gross and do not include blower motor heat gain.
Determine net capacities as follows:
Net cooling capacity = Gross cooling capacity – blower motor heat
= 59,050 – (682 WATTS x 3.413 BTUH/WATTS) = 56,723 BTUH
Net sensible capacity = 44,870 – (682 WATTS x 3.413 BTUH/WATTS) = 42,543 BTUH

7. Altitude correction factors for cooling capacity

replacement with hood assembly.

2. For downward discharge applications, slide in the assembled manual damper/economizer assembly into unit and fix it
horizontally (see figure-2).
3. To convert to horizontal air discharge applications:
a) Remove filters from filter rack.
b) Rotate manual damper/economizer 900 until economizer motor faces condenser section (see figure 3). i.e. the econo-
mizer fixed vertically.
c) Now fix the panel extension plate (item #12 shown in hood assembly drawing) between manual damper/economizer
assembly and front mid post. (Panel extension plate must be installed before installing hood assembly).

IMPORTANT: FILTER MUST BE INSTALLED OUTSIDE THE UNIT ON HORIZONTAL DISCHARGE APPLICATION
WITH MANUAL DAMPER/ECONOMIZER. OTHERWISE THESE MUST BE REMOVED TO ACCESS THE FILTERS.
THE AREA OF THE FIELD INSTALLED FILTERS SHOULD BE EQUAL TO AREA THE OF THE FACTORY INSTALLED
FILTERS.
4. Assemble outdoor air hood top panel and triangular right hand & left hand side panels as shown in hood assembly for
later assembly onto unit.

5. Refer wiring diagram, economizer controls & sequence of operations and installation instructions for easy electrical

ECONOMIZER
CONTROLS & SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
GENERAL
The economizer utilizes cool outside air to satisfy cooling load and thus minimize energy consumption.
A standard economizer uses a dry bulb thermostat to sense outdoor air temperature. If required, solid state enthalpy
controller (optional) can be substituted for Outdoor Air Thermostat (OAT).

INDOOR THERMOSTAT REQUIREMENT

Unit with economizer option, should have a 2 stage cooling thermostat.

WIRING THE ECONOMIZER UNIT

Refer to wiring diagram for easy hook up of the economizer unit.
NOTE: The indoor thermostat should be wired to the economizer electronic board.

A. THERMOSTAT IN COOLING MODE

SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
1. Outdoor air temperature > OAT setting
When outdoor air temperature is above OAT setting and the room temperature calls for cooling, the compressor 1 &
condenser fan motor starts along with the blower motor & the economizer damper moves to the minimum position. On
further calls for cooling, the second compressor will start to meet the additional cooling load requirements. After the
thermostat is satisfied, the compressors are cycled off and once the blower motor also stops, the damper moves to the
fully closed position.
2. Outdoor air temperature < OAT setting
When outdoor air temperature is less than OAT setting and the room temperature calls for cooling, the economizer is
in stage 1 cooling and the compressor 1 is on stage 2. Compressor 2 stops automatically.
When the thermostat calls for cooling, the economizer damper moves to minimum position.
Based on the supply air temperature, the damper either fully opens or modulates to an intermediate position or to
minimum position. (The damper will open for a brief period, say about 5 seconds and will remain idle for about 30
seconds during this period).
When the thermostat is satisfied, the damper will move back to the fully closed position.
If outdoor air alone cannot satisfy the cooling load requirement of the conditioned space, then the compressor 1 will
provide the second stage cooling. The damper operation is the same as stated above.
When the second stage cooling is satisfied, the compressor and the condenser fan will cycle off. When first stage
cooling is also satisfied, the damper moves to the fully closed position.

B. THERMOSTAT IN HEATING MODE

In heat mode, the economizer damper is in minimum position for ventilation. When the thermostat setting is satisfied and
the heater cycles OFF along with the blower, the damper moves to the fully closed position.

C. FAN MODE
When thermostat is set for Fan Mode, the economizer damper moves to the minimum position. When blower motor is
switched off, the damper moves to the fully closed position.
