General Instructions:

1. The question paper comprises Six Sections – A, B, C, D, E and F. There are 37 questions
in the Question paper. All questions are compulsory.

2. Section A – From questions 1 to 20 are MCQs of 1 mark each.

3. Section B – Question no. 21 to 24 are Very Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 2
marks each. Answer to each question should not exceed 40 words.

4. Section C contains Q.25 to Q.29 are Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 3 marks each.
Answer to each question should not exceed 60 words

5. Section D – Question no. 30 to 33 are long answer type questions, carrying 5 marks each.
Answer to each question should not exceed 120 words.

6. Section-E - Questions no from 34 to 36 are case based questions with three sub questions
and are of 4 marks each. Answer to each question should not exceed 100 words.

7. Section F – Question no. 37 is map based, carrying 5 marks with two parts, 37a from
History (2 marks) and 37b from Geography (3 marks).

8. There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has been
provided in few questions. Only one of the choices in such questions have to be attempted.

9. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever
necessary.

10. Note: CBQ stands for “Competency Based Question”. 50% weightage allocated for
competency-based questions.

30 How did the journalist Wilhelm Wolff describe the revolt led by the Silesia weavers against 5
contractors in 1845?

Ans:

 Wilhelm Wolff described the misery of the weavers.


 They were in desperate need of job and contractors took advantage of this situation to
reduce the prices of the goods they order.
 On 4 th June, a large crowd of weavers emerged from their homes and marched in
pairs upto the the mansion of ther contractor demanding higher wages.
 They were treated with scorn and threats alternatively.
 Following this, a group of them forced their way into the house smashed its elegant
window –panes, furniture,porcelain….another group broke into the storehouse and
plundered it of supplies of cloth which they tore to shreds.
 The contractor fled with the family to a neighbouring village which, however, refused
to shelter such a person.
 He returned 24 hours later having requisitioned the army. In the exchange that
followed eleven weavers were shot.

Ans:In India, coal is the most abundantly available fossil fuel. It provides a substantial part of
the nation’s energy needs.

Different forms

 Coal is found in a variety of forms depending on the degree of compression and the
depth and time of burial.
 Decaying plants in swamps produce Peat, which has a low carbon and high moisture
content and low heating capacity.
 Lignite is a low grade brown coal which is soft with high moisture content.
 The principle lignite reserves are in Neyveli in Tamil Nadu and are used in generation
of electricity.
 Coal that has been buried deep and subjected to increased temperatures is bituminous
coal.
 It is the most popular coal in commercial use. Metallurgical coal is high grade
bituminous coal which has high value for smelting iron in blast furnaces.
 Anthracite is the highest quality hard coal.

35 Many thought that given the disadvantages and rising resistance against the multi –purpose 4
projects, water harvesting system was a viable alternative, both socio-economically and
environmentally. In ancient India,along with the sophisticated hydraulic structures, there
existed an extraordinary tradition of water harvesting system. People had in depth knowledge
of rainfall regimes and soil types and developed wide ranging techniques to harvest rainwater,
