• Brief Erection Procedures:

1. Erection work will be carried out starting with the braced bay. Temporary bracing (guy
steel wires) used.
2. Frame columns to be installed and anchor bolts to be tightened to prevent columns from
rocking.
3. Sidewall girts between columns and permanent bracings to be installed.
4. Rafter pieces will be assembled on the ground and will be lift by one or two cranes
according to rafter span.
5. After completing the first bay, make plumb, alignment and squaring, same procedure to
continue erecting columns and rafters, with fixing minimum quarter of purlins before
releasing rigs from rafters.
6. After erecting all columns and rafters, girts, sag rods and bracings be completed, the
building to be checked in plumbness prior to start of sheeting works.

• Sheeting Works:
1. Wall: Sheeting to start at the most viewed direction so that the sheet overlaps are not
visible.
2. Check for correct starting dimension as per erection drawings.
3. Check panel vertical. Repeat the vertical check as each panel is erected.
4. Roof: Sheeting to start by placing the first roof sheet to the given dimension for the
overhang at the eave.
5. String Line to be used as a guide for keeping the tail line of the sheeting straight.
6. Start at eave and work up the roof towards the ridge from both sides of the building.
7. The ridge sheet to be placed last.
8. Ensure that the end lap mastic is placed correctly without gaps.

• Trims and Accessories:

1. Trims and Accessories will be installed according to erection drawings and
manufacturer’s instructions.

• Final Check:
After completing all trims and accessories, a final inspection of the building to be made:
1. All bracings in position and tightened.
2. All bolts in place and high strength bolts tightened to correct tension.
3. Check that roof is clear of debris and ferrous metals.
4. Check mis-drilled holes and ensure that the self-tapping screws is fixed back tightly in
place.
5. Touch-up any damaged paint.
6. Clean up the site.
7. Hand over the building.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EACH INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY OF ERECTION WITH
PROPER WORK PROCEDURE AND NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED
ARE LISTED BELOW:

1. Signing of Work Permits:

The work will start only after the required work permits are obtained from Permit Issuing
Authority.

2. Chipping of Concrete Pedestal for Fixing Shims ( Bearing Plates ):

Chipping will be done at top of the concrete pedestal by using chipping hammer.
Bearing Plates will be fixed to the required level by the use grout under shim plate
around. The worker will wear safety goggles during this activity.
This Activity to be done if necessary.

3. Unloading of Materials:
Unloading of Materials will be done by Forklift or Crane with trained approved riggers
and the lifting gear used will be condition having color codes painted on them as per
Client’s requirement.

4. Opening of Wooden Boxes / Crates:

Wooden boxes, Crates or Packages will be opened in a safe manner using the correct
tools and experienced people wearing all PPE.

5. Segregation of Materials:
The Foreman, Supervisor will do segregation of materials after reading the required
erection drawings, so as to have easy access to the required material in sequence with
the erection required.

6. Inspection of Anchor Bolts:

The Anchor Bolts will be checked by the Supervisor so as to confirm that it is as per the
drawing and the work can be proceeded.

7. Scaffoldings:
The erection of scaffoldings will be done under competent supervision. All scaffolders
will wear the required PPE, such as gloves, safety shoes, helmet and safety harness
during their scaffolding activities. The top of the scaffolding will have a railing, toe plate
and ladder for access. Scaffolding tag will be fixed and signed by competent person
“Safe to Use” on completion.

8. Shifting and Erecting of Required Columns to Site:

Shifting of columns will be done to work site by Forklift so that the assembly can be done
for erection of frames.

9. Shifting and Erecting of Required Rafters to Site:

Rafters will be shifted to site for assembly and will be assembled in such a place that it
can be easily lifted and there is access for the crane. Two cranes will do erection of the
rafters if the length is more than 25 meters. Signaling will be given to the crane operator
by one qualified Rigger at the time of erection. Warning tape will be tied around the work
site so as to barricade the erection area so that no unwanted people trespass the
erection area. After erection of the rafters it is required to tie the rafters with guy wires to
the ground for stability so that the crane can be released.

10. Shifting and Erecting of Required Beams to Site:

Interconnecting beams (if available) will be fixed from the column to column or rafter to
rafter so as to make a cubical in order that it can stand by itself without support.

11. Erecting of Purlins:
Two erectors will do the erection of purlins. Crane will keep a bundle of purlins on the
rafter so that one purlin at a time can be taken for fixing. All people working on heights
will be wearing life harness for their safety.

12. Erection of Horizontal Bracings:

Horizontal Bracings will be done in a similar way as purlin erection.

13. Alignment:
Alignment will be done by the Supervisor to check elevations and the verticality of the
columns and related steel work.

14. Erection of Girts:

Erection of Girts will be done by using telescopic Forklift or Crane as per height and bolt
tightening will be done by using man-lift, basket or scaffolding to have complete safety
for the erectors.

15. Erection of Vertical Bracings:

Erection of vertical bracings will be done in a similar way of girt erection.

16. Fixing of Roof Cladding:

A particular quantity of sheets will be lifted and kept on top of the purlins. Fixing of
sheets will be done one at a time and the remaining sheets will be firmly tied to the
purlins or the structure by rope so it would not fly if there is sudden wind. Each person
will wear safety harness and it will be tied to a steel cable fixed to the steel rigid frame
along ridge of the building.
