Rationale
Rationale
The services of guidance and counseling help students make decisions about
their personal and academic lives. These services are helpful in helping people realize
who they are and set goals for the future in order to achieve excellence and appropriate
adjustment in the institution and in society. (Parbin Sultana Rahman, Subhana Azmi
2023) Students encounter numerous obstacles during their schooling, and occasionally
they are unable to overcome these obstacles in a way that will allow them to be solved.
This is often the result of inadequate guidance. Pupils deal with issues related to
performance, topic selection, academic performance, peer and teacher relationships, and
competition. But owing to loss of sufficient guidance they acquire maladjustments. Then
how can we create a balanced future with them, if they cannot develop a balanced
personality. Teenagers therefore require advice and counseling in order to deal with
issues and manage their lives and careers successfully. This essay aims to examine the
value of guidance and counseling services in high school education and offers some
corrective recommendations for their implementation. Ten high schools were chosen for
the study with the aid of cluster sampling techniques, and information was gathered from
students in the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. 30 teachers were chosen to
gather the data, and 60 pupils were chosen as a sample. Students' quantitative and
counseling services were gathered, as well as information from the school teacher.

been very good, despite guidance and counselling being offered to them. A survey design
supported by use of quantitative and qualitative techniques were used to collect data for
the study. The sample size for the study was 120; this comprised 100 learners, 10 Head
teachers and 10 guidance teachers. Simple random sampling was used to select learners,
while purposive sampling was used to select Guidance teachers and Head teachers.
Primary data were collected by the use of questionnaires and interview schedules;
secondary data were collected through extensive review of literature related to the study.
Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data while quantitative data were
analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The study revealed that
there was a relationship between guidance and counselling services offered and learners‟
academic performance, though the relationship in the study schools was weak because
the services offered were found to be statistically insignificant to have a positive effect on

with a clear policy that will exempt guidance teachers from having any teaching loads.
