1 Executive summary
Schneider Electric has a long history manufacturing Medium Voltage Protection Relay in
electrical distribution since 1950. Sepam 20&40 and MiCOM Px20 were complete ranges
offering a large selection of medium voltage protection, commercialized since late 1990.

Sepam 20 & 40 most common applications were for simple protection distribution network.
Main parameters were:

1. Range family : example : Sepam 20 or 40

2. Application : substation, busbar, transformer, generator, motor

3. Type of current sensors : 1/5A CT or CSH or LPCT

4. These protection relay were equipped with communication card.

The commercialization of Sepam 20 and 40 range started in 1999/2000 to replace Sepam

1000/2000 ranges. Sepam 20&40 is replaced by Easergy P5.

MiCOM Px20 most common applications were specific protection distribution network. Main
parameters were:

1. Range family : example : MiCOM P123

2. These protection relay were equipped with communication card.

The commercialization of MiCOM range started in 1999 to replace MiDOS MCGG ranges.
MiCOM Px20 is replaced by Easergy P5.

To support customers Schneider Electric developed the retrofit solutions (ECOFIT™) to help
ensure the continuity of services for our customer’s applications. This solution is based on
Easergy P5, the connected and cybersecure protection relay.

ECOFIT™ solutions help customers to get the most of their equipment and installations and
to extend the lifetime of their LV/MV switchgear. ECOFIT™ solutions allows you to replace
only the protection relay, while leaving switchboard structure intact.

Shutdown of the cubicle is required during shorter period compare to modernization without
ECOFIT solution. This solution is particularly well adapted to critical sites where the power
supply cannot be interrupted for long periods.

From a technical point of view, the solution consists in re-using the old protection relay cut out.
The ECOFIT kit contains accessories to simplify the upgrade and allow faster replacement of
the old protection relay.
