Genetic Modification in Humans

Genetic modification in humans allows for targeted changes to human DNA to correct genetic defects. While the technology has advanced, many people remain skeptical due to misinformation and ethical concerns about the implications. This misinformation and negative press has affected the credibility of genetic modification and slowed the development of new techniques. International regulations and providing truthful information about both benefits and risks could help address these issues and support continued safe advancement.

Genetic modification in humans.

Over the last few years, the possibility of modifying DNA has advanced in a large

way, genetic modification in humans is a method for making specific changes to the DNA.

Scientists use the technological tools for alter, replace or eliminate genetic information

from the human genome, the principal purpose of that is correct genetic defects that affect

the human health. Currently genetic engineering is developing new technologies for create

new treatments using the modification of DNA. However, many people don’t believe in

that incredible thing because of misinformation, debates about ethical implications in these

treatments, and scientific disclosure. Those problems are affecting the credibility of the use

of genetic modification.

Genetic modification is a controversial topic that has divided opinions about its

correct use, these debates are affecting the development of new techniques. On this text we

are going to describe two negative impacts. First, people who don’t know about the subject

may believe in the first information they find, it is problematic because they can find false

information. On the other hand, the most visited sites on the explorers have news with

negative critics about the topic, when people read a lot of negative things can become

convinced of it, those previous things may affect people’s decisions and distrust the use of

genetic editing, in consequence it delays processes of biomedicine worldwide.

According to the previous paragraph, we can say that many people don’t believe in

the benefits of genetic modification, for that reason it is important to specify what solutions

exist for these negative impacts and for the problem of stop development. In first place, we

can take into account the report of international commission of the U.S. National Academy

of Medicine, U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and the U.K.'s Royal Society, does not
make judgments about the different uses of the genetic modification, it just identifies initial

applications of HHGE (Hereditable Human Genome Editing) and delineates the necessary

elements for a responsible clinical translational pathway. This is an important step, if

science take regulations the advances could not be affected, for example: the Oviedo

convention, it is an advance of consensus in the international law in the matter of human

rights and biomedicine that regarding the techniques of intervention of the human genome.

In second place, it is necessary to create a simple and above all truthful source of

information in which people really know the advantages and disadvantages of biomedicine

and not close to the possibilities just because of the disinformation that exists in networks.

These solutions are good because they take into account legal terms and worry

about the problem of disinformation that is unfortunately affecting various fields today.

Nevertheless, with these solutions it is not guaranteed that all the governments around the

world support the genetic editing or that new projects are financed, for this reason I

consider important to implement other methods in relation to more universal issues.
