Spoken Word Poetry

Grade Level: 10 Quarter: 4

I. Learning Competency/ies:
a) Show appreciation for songs,poems,plays, etc.
b) Compose an independent critique of a chosen selection.
c) Determine tone, mood, technique, and purpose of the author.

II. 21st Century Communication Skills:


a) Articulate thoughts and ideas using oral, written and nonverbal communication
skills in a variety of forms and contexts

III. Guidelines:
a) Before: The teacher will present a video of a spoken word poetry tackling the
issue “Violence Against Women and her Children”. The teacher will give an
activity asking students to write their own spoken word poetry critiquing the
latter. Afterwards, the teacher will present the criteria for this activity.
b) During: The students will create a spoken word poetry based on the spoken
poetry watched/listened to. The students will record a video (minimum of 3
minutes and maximum of 5 minutes) which will be posted on their own
Facebook account to gain reactions from viewers.
c) After: The teacher will evaluate their performances using the given criteria. 50%
of which will come from the teacher, 30% from peer evaluation and the other
20% will be from the no. of reactions (min. of 1000 Facebook Reactions) gained
from the posted video.

a) Utilize multiple media and technologies, and know how to judge their
effectiveness a priority as well as assess their impact.
b) Articulate thoughts and ideas effectively using oral, written, and nonverbal
communication skills in variety of forms and contexts.

III. Guidelines:
a) Before: The teacher will divide the class into 2 groups. The teacher will also
present a list of global issues/events (Charter Change, Phasing out Jeepneys,
etc.) that will serve as topics for the podcast. After the presentation of topics, the
teacher will give the criteria. Ensure students have access to necessary
recording equipment and platforms.
b) During: Encourage active participation and guide discussions to align with
educational objective. Supervise the podcast recording process, offering
assistance if needed. Video must be minimum of 5 minutes and maximum of 10
minutes
c) After: Evaluate completed podcasts, providing constructive feedback to
enhance learning, 80% of which will come from the teacher, 20% from peer
evaluation. Consider sharing outstanding podcasts within the class or even
beyond.

explain that students will be exploring sensory imagery from this story using
Padlet.
b) During: Divide students into small groups of 4 members each group. A specific
section of the Padlet Board (Visual Auditory Imagery or Tactile Imagery)
c) After: After students have completed their contributions, facilitate a brief
reflection discussion. Encourage students to discuss how sensory imagery
enhances their understanding and appreciation of literature.
