armfield

Introduction

This software is designed to operate on PCs with either 32 or 64 bit operating


systems, and is compatible with a range of Armfield interface devices (IFD).

These instructions detail procedures for installing the software on your PC,
connecting the equipment to the PC and installing the appropriate driver for
the USB interface. A guide to operating the software can be accessed from
within the software by clicking on Help.

Installing the Software

To successfully install the Armfield software it will be necessary for the user to
be logged on to the computer as administrator or as a user that has been
granted equivalent administrator rights.

Insert the CD-ROM in the CD/DVD drive. If autorun is disabled or installation


does not start automatically, run the Setup.exe file on the CD-ROM.

The Welcome screen will be displayed showing the available options:

Choose Install Software from the options, wait for the welcome screen to clear
then follow the on screen instructions to install the software on the PC. All of
the default options can be accepted unless installation in a particular location is
required.

When the Welcome screen is displayed again choose Exit the CD but leave the
CD-ROM in the CD/DVD drive of the PC to enable the USB driver to be installed
later.

Installing the USB driver

The USB device communicates with the software via a virtual serial port. The
driver for this is a generic type, which is set up using an information file
(Armfield USB serial.inf) to.

Windows should select the driver automatically from the CD-ROM. However, if
you experience problems it may be necessary to install using one of the
procedures below.

In particular, users of Windows 8 will need to enable the installation of non


digitally signed drivers before they can proceed.
Installation of Armfield IFD USB device on Windows 7

Note: The user must be logged on to the computer using an account with
administrator rights.

1) Install the Armfield software provided with the device.

2) Connect the USB cable to the Armfield device and plug it into the USB port
on the computer.

3) Click the Start button, right click on My Computer and select Properties.
From the menu on the left, select Device Manager.

Right-click on the device and choose properties.


4) Click the update driver button. The following screen will be shown:

Select Browse my computer for driver software.


5) Ensure that the Armfield CD-ROM is in the drive and browse to the CD
drive. Click next.

6) Windows will issue the following warning screen. Click Install anyway.
7) Windows shows confirmation when the driver is correctly installed.

Make a note of the COM port number for future reference. Click Close.
Installation of Armfield IFD USB device on Windows 8

1) Install the Armfield software provided with the device.

2) Connect the USB cable to the Armfield device and plug it in to the USB port
on the PC.

3) Go to the start screen. Move the cursor to the bottom right-hand corner of
the screen to display the options menu.
4) Click on the Settings icon and choose Change PC Settings

5) Choose General, then click Advanced Setup


6) Click on Restart Now

7) Choose Troubleshoot
8) Choose Advanced Options

9) Choose Startup Settings


10) Click Restart. When prompted, press F7 to disable Driver Signing

11) Log on to the computer, go to the desktop and open the Control Panel
12) Open the Device Manager and select the ARMFIELD IFD5 device
13) Right click and choose Update Driver Software. Choose Browse My
Computer...
14) Ensure that the Armfield CD-ROM is in the drive. Click Browse and locate
the CD drive.

15) Follow the instructions to install the driver. Ignore the warning about Driver
signing.
16) When Windows has finished installing the driver, make a note of the port
number which has been allocated.
Operate the software supplied with the product

Once the IFD communications have been set up as detailed above, the
software should initiate communications automatically on subsequent starts.

From the start up screen choose View then Diagram to display a diagram
showing the equipment and any relevant measured variables.

software (accessible using the Help icon in the top menu bar then choosing
Operating the Software).
