9) Beryl made an error proving that 2 1 is divisible by 3 for all integers 𝑛 1
using mathematical induction. The proof is shown below.
Step 1: Prove 2 1 is divisible by 3 (𝑛 is an integer) for 𝑛 1.
2 1 2 1
3 1 Line 1
Result is true for 𝑛 1.
Step 2: Assume true for 𝑛 𝑘.
2 1 3𝑚 (where 𝑚 is an integer) Line 2
Step 3: Prove true for 𝑛 𝑘 1.
2 1 2 2 1 Line 3
2 3𝑚 1 1 Line 4
2 3𝑚 2 1 1
3 2𝑚 1
Which is a multiple of 3 since m and k are integers.
Step 4: Hence, proven true by mathematical induction for all integers 𝑛 1.

building. At time 𝑡 seconds after projection, the horizontal and vertical displacements
of the ball from 𝑂 are 𝑥 metres and 𝑦 metres respectively.
Note that after the ball is projected , 𝑥 0 and 𝑦 0.
Use 10 m/s for the acceleration due to gravity.
(ii) Hence, show that the Cartesian equation of the trajectory of the ball is
