Std 7 Physics Problems

Lesson: Time and Motion
1)Calculate the time period of a simple pendulum if it takes 15s to complete 5 oscillations.
Solution: Time period = Time taken / no of oscillations
= 15 / 5
= 3s
2)A simple pendulum takes 30s to complete 18 oscillations. What is the time period and frequency of the
pendulum ?
Solution: Time period = Time taken / no. of oscillations
= 30 /18
= 1.6 s
Frequency = 1/T
= 1/ 1.6
= 0.625 Hz
3)The distance between 2 stations is 540km. A train takes 3 hours to cover this distance. Calculate the speed in
km/hr and m/s
Solution: Given data:
Distance = 540 km
Time = 3 hours
Speed = ?
Speed = distance / time
= 540km / 3hr
= 180 km/hr
Conversion to m/s
180 km/hr = 180 x 5/18
= 50 m/s
4)A person covers 108 km in 3 hours. What is his speed in m/s?
Solution: Given data:
Distance = 108 km
Time = 3 hours
Speed = distance / time
= 108 / 3
= 36 km/hr
Conversion to m/s
36 km/hr = 36 x 5/18
= 10 m/s
5)A runner travels around a rectangular track with length 50m and width 20m. After travelling around the
rectangular track for 2 times the runner runs back to the starting point. Determine the distance and displacement.
Solution :

Distance = 50 +20 + 50 +20

= 140 m
Since the athlete is running 2 times
distance = 2 (140m)
distance = 280 m
Since the athlete is returning back to the original position the displacement is 0m
6)A car travels along a straight road 100m East and then 50m West. Find the distance and displacement.
Solution: Distance = 100 + 50
= 150m
Displacement = 100 – 50
= 50 m
7) The odometer of a car reads 57321 km when the clock shows the time as 8:30 am. What is the distance
moved by the car if at 8:50 am the odometer reading has changed to 57336 km. Express the speed in km/h.
Solution: Initial odometer reading = 57321 km
Final odometer reading = 57336 km
Total distance covered = Final reading - Initial reading = 57336 km - 57321 km
Therefore, distance covered = 15 km
Time taken = final time - initial time = 8:50 am - 8:30 am = 20 min
Converting 20 min to hour :
1 h = 60 min
Therefore, 20 min = 20/ 60 = ⅓ h
Speed = distance travelled / time taken
Speed = 15 / (⅓) = 15 x 3 = 45 km/h

LESSON : HEAT AND ITS EFFECTS

8)Convert 77o F to o c
Solution: oc/5 =( of-32 ) /9
o
c/5 = (77 – 32 ) / 9
o
c / 5 = 45 / 9
o
c/ 5 = 5
o
c=5x5
o
c = 25
9)Convert 50 oc to 0f
O
c/ 5 =( of – 32) / 9
50 / 5 =( of – 32) / 9
10 = (o f – 32) / 9
10 x 9 = of – 32
90 = of – 32
90 + 32 = of
122 = of

10)One litre of water at 30 o c is mixed with one litre of water at 48 o c, the temperature of mixture will be
Solution : T E (Thermal Equilibrium temperature) = (T 1 + T 2 ) / 2
= (30 + 48 ) / 2
= 78 / 2
= 39 oC
11) Convert 30 o c to K
Solution : oc = k – 273
30 = k – 273
30 + 273 = k
303 = k
12) Convert 50 k to oc
Solution : oc = k – 273
O
c = 50 – 273
O
c = - 223
13) Convert 300 k to of
Solution: (of – 32) / 9 = (k – 273) / 5
( 0f – 32) / 9 = (300 – 273) / 5
( 0f – 32) / 9 = 27 / 5
0
f – 32 = (27 x 9) / 5
0
f – 32 = 243 / 5
0
f – 32 = 48.6
0
f = 48.6 + 32
0
f = 80.6
14) Convert 130 of to k
Solution: (of – 32) / 9 = (k – 273 )/ 5
(130 – 32) / 9 = (k – 273 )/ 5
98 / 9 = (k – 273 )/ 5
( 98 x 5 )/ 9 = k – 273
490 / 9 = k – 273
54.44 = k – 273
54.44 + 273 = k
327.44 = k
