OKI C911 / 931 / 941: Disassembly & Reassembly Procedures
OKI C911 / 931 / 941: Disassembly & Reassembly Procedures
This document describes the disassembly of the Oki Data C900 series of
printers. It is to be used during Oki Data Service Training. It is not designed to be a
self-directed course, as Oki Data Trainers will provide additional information as required
during the course. We are not responsible for typographical errors nor or we responsible
for manufacturing changes that are considered part of a products life cycle.
This document is being provided in conjunction with an Oki Data sponsored and
instructor led course. Be aware that the machine you are working with may have
already been disassembled, resulting in parts and / or screws being incorrectly replaced.
You are responsible for your own personal safety as you work through this course. You
are expected to know how to safely operate, disassemble, and repair machines of this
type. Oki Data is providing disassembly, troubleshooting, repair and reassembly
instructions specific to this series of printers. Oki Data assumes that each student has
already demonstrated their knowledge of basic electronics, troubleshooting, disassembly
and reassembly of this type of equipment.
• This product generates potentially lethal voltages. While Oki Data has made
every attempt to insure safe operation and voltage interruption by installing safety
circuits, it is possible to by-pass these safety circuits. Oki Data will not be
responsible for the safety of any attendee who knowingly by-passes any of these
safety devices.
• The printer units are very heavy. The C911 printer weighs approximately 230
pounds. Safe lifting techniques are required and Oki Data assumes that the
attendee is versed in established safe lifting techniques.
• These printers contain large amounts of metal that may have sharp edges or
burrs on edges. Oki Data assumes no liability for carelessness that results in
injuries to attendees. In short – Be Aware – Be Careful - Don’t Fool Around!
• If you are unsure of something – ask the Oki Data Trainer before continuing.
• Follow the disassembly instructions as they are written to insure your safety as
well as your successful disassembly/reassembly of the printer(s) you’ll be
working with.

1 All printer directions refer from front of printer
IMPORTANT: Please keep all screws with the parts they came out of and during reassembly pay
careful attention to installing the correct screw color and size. If you have leftover
screws – please return them to the instructors before the printers are re-packed.
1
Remove all toner cartridges by lifting the
3
front edge and slowly pulling it out.
2
Remove waste toner bottle by pulling the
5
handle on the end of the waste toner
bottle. As you remove the waster toner
bottle, you will see a handle in the middle
of the bottle. Grab and support the waste
toner bottle by this handle to fully remove
it from the printer.
3
Grasp both transfer belt handles and gently
7
pull the transfer belt assembly from the
printer. About 2/3 of the way removed you
will feel resistance – just lift the belt
assembly slightly to clear these “safety
stops.”
4
Remove the paper cassette by pulling the
9
drawer straight out and lifting it slightly.
5
Gently lift the operator panel.
12
Reassembly Warning:
It is very easy to unplug one of these
connectors when reattaching the operator
panel during reassembly. If the cable(s)
are disconnected, symptoms may be no
display and no initialization when
powered up.
6
Remove the 4 screws (2 on the outside / 2
15
on the inside) of the cover below the
duplexer.
7
On the rear cover, remove the HDD access
19
cover w/1 captive screw.
8
Releasing the front offset cover tab.
9
Remove the photo interrupter sensor from
24
the job offset assembly. It is clipped in with
3 tabs.
25 Unthread the photo interrupter sensor wiring harness and let hang over the rear of the printer.
10
Front screw securing the job offset
mechanism to the printer.
11
Remove 3 screws holding the top cover.
28
2 in the front – 1 at right and one 1 left,
facing down to the frame.
12
Open the eject assembly and pull the
31
drawer out from the printer.
13
On the engine board (FIY2) locate the
34
“MPTIF” connector (12 wire connector with
purple cables) and gently unplug it.
14
From the paper tray opening, slip a small
38
screw driver in to press and release the 2
tabs on the left side of the lower access
cover.
15
Open the multi-purpose paper tray (MPT)
41
unit.
16
Lift the tab on the black plastic cover (as
43
shown in the last photo) and slide the
plastic cover down and remove it.
17
Ensure the 12 purple wire bundle and
45
connector have plenty of slack in it and
slowly pull the multi-purpose tray unit from
the printer.
18
Remove the black plastic wire guard on the
47
left of the printer frame by removing 1 silver
screw and lifting 1 tab on the bottom of the
guard.
19
CAUTION: Ensure the front drum door is supported!
20
On the right side, inside the MPT cavity,
51
release 1 tab and slide the black plastic
wiring protector to the printer’s right.
21
Remove the 3 black screws at the top of
54
the metal guide, and the 4 silver screws as
shown at right and remove the metal guide
plate.
55 On the front of the printer, pull the right side door frame down.
22
Disengage the registration plate from the 2
58
locator pins on the front of the printer
frame and 2 more on the rear of the printer
frame and remove this assembly.
23
Unplug the 3 pin purple connector from the
61
paper sensor
24
Within the printer, remove 2 silver screws
64
– 1 at the front and one at the rear.
25
Remove 4 black screws under the hopping
67
unit.
26
Lift the shield over the 2 tabs at the top
72
and remove the shield.
27
75 NOTE: The yellow station is the one
nearest the paper exit.
28
77 Remove the remaining ducts (Magenta – Cyan – Black, in that order).
NOTE: There are only 5 screws in each of the remaining ducts – the left rear screw is not present
on these ducts!
29
82 In the left rear corner of the duct support
tray there is a 2 wire connector. Gently
pull the purple & white connector and set it
aside.
30
There are 8 ribbon cables to
86
disconnect.

CAUTION: The LED Print Head
cables are easily damaged. Make sure you
unlock the board / head connector tabs
before you remove / reinstall the head
cables. Damaged cables will cause errors
on power up.
32
Remove 1 screw securing the USB port
89
to the card cage / frame.
33
Gently disconnect the cable clips securing
91
the cable harnesses to the card cage and
carefully unthread the cable harnesses
from the card cage.
34
Gently unsnap the black cable guide from
94
the top edge of the card.
Carefully remove the card cage and gently unthread all wire harnesses.
95
35
Unplug 2 Red wire cable connector form
98
the board.
On the front of the printer, gently pull the drum door frames into the open position. This will lift
99
the motors to allow access to the screw securing them to the printer.
NOTE: Each motor is held in place by 5 screws and has 2 wire harnesses attached – except
black, which only has one 10 pin wire harness connector.
36
Reinstall the motor and screws, starting at
101
the top and working your way down to the
bottom screw.
37
Gently release the power switch from the
103
frame.
