Lesson 4. Present perfect with “Just”

1. OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1.1. Knowledge:
- know how to use ‘just’ in present perfect sentences.
- use ‘just’ in present perfect sentences to talk/write about a recent event.
1.2. Competences:
- Self-control and independent learning: perform speaking, listening tasks.
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs or groups.
- Sociability: talk to each other, say good words to others.
1.3. Attitude/ Qualities:
- Kindness: Help partners to complete learning tasks.
- Honesty: tell the truth about feelings and emotions
2. TEACHING AIDS:
- Teacher: laptop, powerpoint, TV or projector.
- Students: Super mind student’s book p.85, notebook, workbook, school
things.
3. PROCEDURES:

1. Warm-up: (5’)
*Aims: to create a friendly and active atmosphere in the
class, introduce the lesson.
*Procedure:
- T divides class into 3 teams (1, 2 and 3)
- T introduces our guest today – Mr. Bean. - Ss watch and
- T asks ss to watch a video about Mr. Bean and write write down
down all his activities.
- T gives question: “What has Mr. Bean just done?” - Ss answer
- T comments, gives stars and shows some sentences:
He has just done the laundry.
He has just washed the dishes.
He has just cleaned the house.

- T underlines “just” and checks ss’s understading about
“just” . - Ss answer
- T introduces lesson today: “Present perfect with “just”

2. Presentation (10’)
Activity 1. Explore how to use ‘just’ in present perfect
sentences.
*Aims: Ss will know how to use ‘just’ in present perfect
sentences.
*Procedure:
- T asks ss to identify and remind the tense in these - Ss answer
sentences: “What tense that we use in these sentences?
Which form of sentence are these? (Are they negative
sentences? Are they positive sentences?)
(Present perfect tense – positive sentence)
- In Present perfect tense, we have:
S + have/has (‘ve/’s)+ Verb (PP) + O.
- T asks ss to identify position of just in Present perfect - Ss answer
tense (after have/has in positive sentence)
S + have/has (‘ve/’s)+ JUST + Verb (PP) + O.
- T asks ss: “Why did we use just in these sentences?
Encourage ss to say the meaning of “just” in this sentence - Ss answer
(used to talk about a recent event)
- Give more examples about recent activities in class: I’ve
just closed the book./ You’ve just talked with your friend.
- T emphasizes: In present perfect tense, we use just to talk
about a recent event, position of just in positive sentence is
after have/has.
3. Practice: (7’)
Activity 2. Match the pictures with the sentences.
*Aims: to help students practice identifying/ recognizing - Ss do the task
‘just’ in present perfect sentences.
*Procedure:
- Have Ss look all pictures and sentences in Activity 2,
encourage ss to guess the actors feelings
- Ask Ss to match the pictures of the actors and actresses
with the correct sentences from 1-6 by writing the
numbers in the boxes.
- Have Ss write the answers in 2 minutes.
- Check ss’s answers.
- Give stars to the groups whose members answer
correctly.
4, Production: (8’)
Activity 3: Game Baamboozle
*Aims: To help students practice using ‘just’ in present
perfect sentences.
*Procedure:
- T introduces the rule: “In this game, you have to answer - Ss listen
these questions by using just in present perfect tense. The
team that comes first will get 3 stars, the second team will
get 2 stars and one star for the last team).
- T shows pictures of activity and question and let students - Ss play the
say their own sentences based on the picture or questions game
about students.
Eg: What has he just done?He has just gone to bed.
What have you just eaten for breakfast?
What lesson have you just had?
- Give stars.
- T gives homework (WB p.85)
