Natural Language Interface

Natural Language Interface is when the user is able to use a computer in the language they are
accustomed to (the language they usually communicate others with). This interface is beginner-friendly
and is helpful to people that are not used to using a computer. Due to the various contexts the natural
language can take, it is complex to build, especially to other

Menus
Menus are lists of certain functions and items that are given of which the user chooses from. The
functions and items listed can vary from menu to menu, with some menus having similar items to others
while having items that are different or unique from them. It is advisable for users to know which item
to choose in order to fulfill a specific task. They can be used with any hardware.

Nested menus can help a user to perform a task in a simpler way by giving options that they want to see
as well less clutter on the screen so as not to frustrate the user.

1) The main menu is always shown to the user

2) Singular words are used for main menu items. The main menu must also give a drop-down
menu of secondary items specific for the primary items
3) Those secondary items listed together must be relating to the primary items and therefore
similar
4) Those drop-down menus must have more than one word.
5) The secondary items can do the action or create more drop down menus
6) Items in grey means that they are unable to perform anything listed in number 5
7) Pop-up menus appear when they are clicked on with the right mouse button and most of them
do similar things to main menu items. They are specific towards what the user is doing now.
8) Users more familiar with computers may prefer single line command entries like shortcuts than
nested menus ( ctrl+v = paste)

GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces)

One thing that must be ensured so that GUIs work is to make sure that the user is regularly updated on
their progress so that changes can be made without mistakes.

GUIs are difficult to make due to representations that predecessors for GUIs must be first be made.
What it is also made for is must also be considered, since intranets, extranets and the Web needs more
careful understanding. The designer not only has to ensure that their GUIs are easy to understand for
everyone, but also ensure that it will attract users while also still complying to some new rules that users
anticipate.

Other User Interfaces

Lesser known interfaces are becoming more known such as the stylus, touch sensitive screens as well as
speech recognition. These interfaces have specific qualities for use on certain applications.

The stylus (a pen-like object with a point) has become well-known recently due to many factors such as
low prices, simple use and has various functions.
These mobile devices are extremely popular, with an influx of many applications such as games, to

Command Language Interfaces

Command Language Interfaces are interfaces of which people can achieve particular functions by
entering a series of keystrokes, commands and/or phrases. Some can consider this close to the natural
language interface. Command Language can give more control of options and can be quicker to perform.
However, inexperienced users who haven’t learnt the sequences and combinations to do certain tasks
can be harder to do.

With this interface, a person can receive input and enter output for a computer with a language that
they are usually accustomed to. The beginner-friendly interface is most desirable, however, due to the
various contexts a language can take, the availability of the interface over other applications such as for
