The use of the The Coriolis Mass Flow Scale (CDW) detects the flow rate of a free-
device flowing and non depositing bulk product according to the "Coriolis
principle". A suitable external feeding controller provides the
evaluation of the signals that have been read. In order to comply with
the “intended purpose” the following specifications of the
documentation have to be complied with: If the use of the device
complies with its intended use
• the device does not cause any danger for the operating staff, the
machine and the environment.
• the device is
- in a flawless condition as far as safety is concerned
- fully functional
• only appropriate products are fed.
• the application conditions for the dimensioning of the device are
complied with.

• Free-flowing bulk solids
• Bulk solids that do not form material deposits
• Not ignitable due to friction or strokes
• No explosive characteristics
• No change of the product characteristics due to the revolving
impeller wheel
• No inadmissibly high wear of the device

The construction The CDW has a closed housing with an inlet for the product supply
and an outlet for the product discharge. The on-site product lines are
connected via flexible sleeves to the inlet and outlet. The measuring
device of the CDW is a revolving impeller wheel that is driven by
means of a drive motor via a drive shaft. The product is conveyed via
the inlet funnel into the revolving impeller wheel from where it is
transported to the outlet funnel and then it falls freely into the
connected product line.
For the mounting on site the device is equipped with mounting
profiles that permit a suspended installation. Upon request the device
can be equipped with a factory-made base frame.

The function The CDW detects the product flow of the product that is flowing
through. The impeller wheel is driven by the drive motor with constant
operating speed. The product flow is conveyed into the revolving
impeller wheel where it generates a Coriolis force working against the
direction of rotation ("Coriolis principle"). To provide a constant speed
the drive motor therefore has to produce a higher torque. This
change of torque is a function of the flow rate of the bulk solid and
thus is an indicator for the flow rate. The CDW permits to measure
the change of torque via a load cell. The external feeding controller
computes the flow rate from the weight signal and then processes the
flow rate internally.

Drive motor of the The impeller wheel is driven by a threephase current motor. As a
impeller wheel protection of the weighing system the drive motor is controlled via an
external electronics and after the start it reaches its operating speed
via a ramp function ("soft start"). As standard the drive motor is
operated in mains operation so that the operating speed corresponds
to the rated speed of the drive motor.

Adjustment of The adjustment is carried out with the feeding controller parameter
CDW150, 250 "weight test value". The “weight test value” (WT) is a parameter for
the adaptation of the weight reading carried out by the feeding
controller.
Step What to do
1 Read the new weight value (W 1).
2 Check the weight test value
If Measure
(W 1 - W 0) = 500g Weight test value correct
(W 1 - W 0) ? 500g Correct the weight test value
WTnew = WTold x (500 / (W 1 - W 0))

Adaptation the The feeding operation of the device is monitored and controlled by a
feeding controller feeding controller. The software of the feeding controller has to be
adapted to the hardware and the operating conditions of the device.
The parameters and adjustment possibilities are described in the
“software manual” of the feeding controller.
Pos: 7.7.3 /Information Mapping/Betriebsanleitungen/Kap 06 - Inbetriebnahme/Durchflussmessung/CDW/ Inbetriebnahme Dosiergerät - Auto-Tarabetrieb @ 17\mod_1263981933796_2.doc @ 265254 @ 3
Auto-tare The feeding controller offers the so-called "auto-tare operation" of the
operation device. This operation permits to tare the device, i.e. the weight
loading (= torque) of a device that is running idle is measured, stored
into the so-called "auto-tare memory" and subtracted from the actual
weight value.
The run of the auto-tare operation is described in the “software
manual” of the feeding controller.

feeding controller functions:
• Start/stop the measurement
• A suitable operating software that
- can be adapted to the device,
- that can read the weight signal of the load cell,
- that can compute the flow rate from the weight signal that
has been read in.

Functions of the In addition to the requirements for flow metering the feeding
feeding controller controller requires the following functions for gravimetric flow
metering:
• Start/stop the feeding operation
• The suitable hardware/software for the control of the feed rate of
the feeding device/the product quantity.
Pos: 8.7.4 /Information Mapping/Betriebsanleitungen/Kap 07 - Betrieb/Durchflussmessung/CDW/ grav. Durchflussmessung - Ablaufbeschreibung @ 17\mod_1263995471454_2.doc @ 265672 @ 3
For the control of the feed rate the feeding controller will compute a
new setpoint signal (6) for the drive controller (7) of the feed drive (M)
by means of a control circuit and thus influences the feed rate of the
feeding device.
The feeding controller starts/stops the feeding operation by means of
the enable signal (5).

Introduction This chapter describes the different switch-off modes of the device.
The device can be switched off
• manually by the operator or
• automatically by the controller of the device/installation.
Pos: 9.1.3 /Information Mapping/Betriebsanleitungen/Kap 08 - Außerbetriebnahme/Allgemeine Module/ 1.Seite - Einschränkungen @ 8\mod_1171007839550_3.doc @ 120460 @ 3
Limitation The description in this chapter does not take into account any
product-specific influences on the switch-off.
Example:
With a product that is not allowed to remain in the feeder due
to its characteristics, e.g. precipitation hardening, the feeder
• has to be discharged completely before switch-off.
• has to be cleaned completely and thoroughly after the
switch-off.
