Feasibility of DIY Battery Generated Hair Dryer
Hair dryer is an electromechanical device designed to blow normal or hot air over
damp hair to accelerate the evaporation of water particles to dry the hair faster. This
investigatory project aims to make use of cardboard, dc motor, nichrome wire, 2 batteries
Two 9V batteries are connected to each other and by the use of thin copper wires,
one end is connected to one side (a) switch while the other end is connected to the
nichrome wire and then to the other side (b) of the switch. Using a separate copper wire,
the dc motor is then connected to one side (b) of the switch. This setup is then covered
with the cardboard framework that will give rise to your own home made working dryer.

INTRODUCTION
Technology is rapidly becoming more creative and useful nowadays. Most of the
things and works are done with the help of any machines, tools or other inventions that
can lessen time consuming or to makes life easier. Energy or power is the top necessity
to make this inventions work. But this energy or power is not for free, like for example in
our house, lights, televisions, electric fans or even gadgets needs energy/power to work
or to use. Of course, this energy/power is not everywhere, you can't watch a television
without plugging it in a socket, and so the electric fan, even the bulb can't light without
electricity/power.
This invention "Battery generated hair dryer" that is produced by scrap materials
and batteries that can help or can make the drying of hair even when it is not plug in. The
with external connections provided to power electrical devices. This hair dryer is produced
simply to let people use an equipment in any places and to take away the seeking of
The purpose of the study therefore, is to create a device, a hair dryer which is mostly
made of household materials. To do this goal, the following statements are stated and
considered.

This investigatory project is limited on the battery when it runs out of power or
energy stored in it also the heat that it will provide to dry the hair.
Chapter 2
This chapter discusses the combination of ideas from selected literature and studies
that aims to enrich the knowledge regarding the topic. The literature and studies were
gathered through different theses, books, and online databases that can help the
researchers in creating ideas for the Battery generated Hair dryer that is mostly made from
household materials.
electrical device used to dry and style hair. It uses an electric fan to blow air across a
heating coil; as the air passes through the dryer it heats up. When the warm air reaches
wet hair, it helps evaporate the water. Hair Dryers may be used with a variety of brushes
market in 1925. It produced only 100 watts of heat and therefore it did not have sufficient
power to dry hair quickly. It weighed over 2lb (1kg) because of it was made of heavy steel
and zinc. Over the next 20 years engineers improved the design and managed to triple
the heat output, raising 300 watts. By 1960’s. further improvements in electrical technology
energy that is converted in electricity. Basically, batteries are small chemical reactors, with
the reaction producing energetic electrons, ready to flow through external device.
Franklin first used the term “battery” in 1749 when he was doing experiments with
convert electrical energy to mechanical energy. Electric motors are extremely important in
modern-day life. They are used in vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, computer printers, fax
machines, video cassette recorders, machine tools, printing presses, automobiles, subway
systems, sewage treatment plants, and water pumping stations, to mention only a few
applications.
According to Gale Group Inc, The basic principle on which motors operate is
Ampere's law. This law states that a wire carrying an electric current produces a magnetic
moving them from one location to another. Mechanical fans with revolving blades are used
waste, or to provide draft for a fire. They are also used to move air for cooling purposes,
as in automotive engines and air-conditioning systems, and are driven by belts or by direct
motor. The axial-flow fan (e.g., an electric table fan) has blades that force air to move

The Theoretical Framework of the study was made by the researchers. Figure 2.1
shows how the hair dryer made from household materials functions by representing the
electrical structure of the study. It was power generated by parallel series battery, motor
and fan for wind and nichrome resister as heating element and also for resistance.
Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework of this study, shown in Figure 2, was derived from the
theoretical framework provided. This framework has been the guide of the researchers in

Conceptual Framework
In Figure 2.2 shows the process of function of the battery generated hair dryer. First,
it will start in the switch to flow the electricity from the battery. Second, as the switch is on
also the fan will start moving and generate air. Third, Nichrome will provide resistance and
act as a heating element as the air pass through the nichrome the air will be heated.

study.
Nichrome - or Nickel-Chrome can be used for heating, but most metals conduct electricity
with great efficiency, requiring them to be formed into very thin and delicate wires in order
supplies motive power for a vehicle or for some other device with moving parts.
Switch - a device for making and breaking the connection in an electric circuit.
Fan - an apparatus with rotating blades that creates a current of air for cooling or
ventilation.
Hair Dryer - an electrical device for drying a person's hair by blowing warm air over it.

METHODOLOGY
This chapter tackles the design and question of the research, and also the different
method used in this study. This chapter also explains where source of the data gathered
was and the processes of the study to have output. The purpose of the methodology
Project Design
This section of this chapter discussed the project design. It explained the totality
of how the project was brought up. If you look at figure 3.1, the battery generated Hair
Dryer is made of material that can only found on our household like the motor that took
out from broken toy car, the fan was only made from tin can or can of soft drinks and the

Design of the Product
The project design, shown in the figure 3.1, illustrate how the product is conducted
and structured. Battery, Switch, Nichrome, Motor, Fan and wires were set up. The Fan is
attached to motor to make the fan rotate and produce wind. The Nichrome provides
resistance and also acts as heating element. So, when the air pass through the nichrome
the air will be heated and gives warm air to dry wet hair.
Project Components
The following equipment and tools used in the project is for generating and
conducting the energy that is produced by the project. All specifications are stated and
