I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARD The learner demonstrates understanding of: Southeast Asian literature
as mirror to a shared heritage; coping strategies in processing textual
information strategies in examining features of a listening and viewing
material; structural analysis of words and propaganda techniques; and
grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis.

B. PERFORMANCE The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a persuasive


STANDARD speech based on an informative essay featuring use of properly
acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-
making, persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features,
stance, and behavior.

GRADE LEVEL STANDARD The learner demonstrates communicative competence through his/ her
understanding of Philippine Literature and other texts types for a deeper
appreciation of Philippine Culture.

a. Prayer Let the students stand up for a prayer.

c. Checking of Attendance Let the secretary of the class check the attendance.
d. Checking of Assignment Ask: Is there an assignment? If yes let the students submit it
forward.
e. Review Give a short review regarding the lesson discussed yesterday.

information you know about her/him.

Activity 2.1: “Meeting the structure”
Read the given paragraph carefully and complete the diagram
according to what is asked.
Activity 2.2: “Digging deeper into the parts”
Arrange the given sentences in the box to form an informative
essay.
Note: The essay should have one introductory sentence, three-
sentence body paragraph, and one concluding sentence. Follow the
format below.

b. Analysis Process Questions for Collaboration:
1. Based on the given activities, what is an informative essay?
2. What is/are the function/s of an informative essay?
3. What are the parts or the structure of an informative essay?
4. How can you describe each structure?

c. Abstraction  An informative essay, sometimes called expository essay,


informs or educates reader on a topic. It introduces a clearly
stated topic/controlling idea.
Functions:
1. to define a term
Example: What is Youth?
2.compare and contrast something
Example : Airplane and Helicopter : Their Similarities and
Differences
3. provide a how-to Example : How to Study Effectively
 The introduction contains techniques that grab reader’s
attention such as famous quotes, statistics, or interesting
questions.
 The introduction also contains the thesis statement.
 A thesis statement is a statement that expresses the claim
of the writer about the topic. It is like a roadmap that will tell
the reader the focus of the writer.
 The body is composed of paragraphs that support the main
claim of the essay.
 Each paragraph contains a topic sentence that carries the
main idea of the paragraph.
 This topic sentence is supported by examples, statistics and
facts. It should be clear and concise.
Avoid sentences that start with the following:
 In this paragraph…
 I am going to tell you about…
 This paragraph will be about…
 The conclusion is the last paragraph of the essay. It contains
a restatement of the main claim/ thesis statement of the
essay and a summary of the main points.
 Things to Remember An informative essay …
 introduces a clearly stated topic/controlling idea.
 creates an organizational structure in which related
information is grouped logically to support the writer’s
purpose.  develops evidence with relevant facts, definitions,
concrete details, quotations, and examples with references to
sources.
 uses precise language and content specific words clearly
appropriate for audience and purpose.
 uses appropriate transition words within and across
paragraphs to smoothly and purposefully connect the
controlling idea to evidence.
d. Application Activity 2.4: “Write and Visualize”
Compose your own informative essay. You may use suggested
topics below or create your own:
 Best house pets.
 Unusual vegetables and fruits.
 Donuts for dinner.
 Global warming.
 Kids make parenting hard.
 The best way to learn effectively.
 Guns legalization.
 The workload of students needs to be lowered.
 Artificial Intelligence as a learning solution.
 Openness of modern students to change
 Spontaneity improves life.
 Increased work efficiency by listening to music.
 Hobby is the richness of life.
 Kindness is the utmost personal trait.
 Being organized helps in high school.
 Embarrassing moments boost the confidence.
 Parents should control the amount of time children spend
watching

Output will be graded based on the given rubric below:


e. Assessment Write a short informative essay using the given illustration as your
guide. Use a whole sheet of paper. Your work will be rated
according to this rubric.
f. Additional activities for “Tell Me MORE INFORMATIVE”
application or remediation

Directions: Using the information above, compose an informative


essay observing the correct structure. Provide your own
introduction and conclusion.
