INTRODUCTION
Introduction
Language acquisition is a notion that academics studying psycholinguistics and
bilingualism have thought about and worked with extensively over the years. These
academics' focus appears to have moved from Chomsky's theory of language
acquisition in a first language (L1) setting during the past few decades to that of a
bilingual environment, with a focus on second language learning in particular. As the
country under study for our case study, Nigeria is bilingual or multilingual, with
English being imposed upon her as the dominant or superordinate language. Since the
superordinate language is both the official language and the language of instruction,
learning it is essential given the linguistic conditions in Nigeria. Thus, we will be
talking about some of the fundamental problems with language.Therefore, in this
chapter, we will discuss some of the fundamental problems with language acquisition.
We will also describe the issue that prompted this investigation. We will outline the
goals we hope to accomplish with this study and list any potential roadblocks that
may arise. We will also attempt to define the important concepts in this chapter.
Conclusion
This study aims to validate the knowledge that has been gained via research, having
taken into account numerous academic journals on the subject of child second
language acquisition, the techniques they used to gather and present their data, and the
different challenges they brought up.
