MODULE PRESENTATION:
MATH111/MATV111/MATT101 is offered face-to-face. This means that all lectures,
tutorials, assessments, and consultations will be done in person. Each week, a student
is expected to attend four double lecture sessions and a double tutorial session.
ASSESSMENTS:
All assessments will be written in person.
Tutorial Tests
We will have four tutorial tests. Each tutorial test is a fifteen minutes assessment that is
written during the tutorial session. If you miss a tutorial test with a valid reason and you
submit the required documentation within three working days, you will be given an
opportunity to write the tutorial test with another group. See work schedule for tutorial
test weeks.
Semester Tests
We will have four semester tests. Each semester test is an assessment that is written
during a Tuesday lecture session. If you miss a semester test with a valid reason and
you submit the required documentation within three working days, you will be given an
opportunity to write a sick test. See work schedule for semester test dates.
Examination
There is only one examination. The examination is a three hours assessment handled
by the assessment and graduation office. If you miss the examination, you must submit
necessary documentation to the assessment and graduation office. See work schedule
for examination and re-examination period.
CALCULATIONS OF MARKS:
Class Mark
Assessment Mark Contribution (%)
Tutorial Test 1 5
Tutorial Test 2 5
Tutorial Test 3 5
Tutorial Test 4 5
Semester Test 1 20
Semester Test 2 20
Semester Test 3 20
Semester Test 4 20
The class mark is the sum of all the test mark contributions. To qualify to write the
examination, you must obtain a class mark of at least 40%. If your class mark is below
40%, you have failed the module.
Final Mark
Mark Contribution (%)
Class Mark 50
Examination Mark 50
To pass the module, you must obtain an examination mark of at least 40% and a final
mark of at least 50%. If your final mark is at least 45% but less than 50%, you will qualify
to write the re-examination. If your examination mark is below 40% but your final mark is
at least 50%, you will qualify to write the re-examination.
The re-examination is similar to the examination, it is a three hours assessment handled
by the assessment and graduation office.
