OR Question

The documents present multiple resource allocation and job scheduling problems as linear programs. They provide processing times, costs and available resources for different products, jobs, machines or employees. The objective is to determine the optimal allocation or scheduling of items to machines, employees or centers

1. A manufacturer produces two products Pen and Scale.

It takes 1 hour of work on machine M1 and 3 hours

of work on machine M2 to produce one package of Pens while it takes 3 bours of work on machine M1, and
1 hour of work on machine M2 to produce one package of Scales He earns a profit of Tk.36 per package of
Pens and Tk 20 per package of Scales. By graphical solution method, find, how many packages of each type
should be produced each day so as to maximize his profit if he operates each machine for at most 12 hours a
day.
2. A chemical company is producing two products A & B. The processing times are 3 hours and 4 hours per
unit for A on operations I and Il respectively and 4 hours and 5 hours per unit for B on operations I and II
respectively. The available times are 18 hours and 21 hours for operations I and II respectively. The product
A can be sold at Tk.30 profit per unit and B at Tk.80 profit per unit. Formulate this problem as a LP problem
and find the number of units of the two products A & B to be produced in order to maximize the daily profit
by graphical method.
3. A diet for a sick person must contain at least 4000 units of Vitamin, 50 units of Mineral and 1400 Calorie.
Two foods A and B are available at a cost of 1k4 and Tk3 per unit respectively. One unit of food A contains
200 units of Vitamin, unit of mineral and 40 calorie and 1 unit of food B contains 100 units of vitamin, 2
units of mineral and 40 units of caloric. Formulate the above problem as a LP problem and find by graphical
method what contribution of foods be used to have least cost?
4. A firm manufactures headache pills in two sizes; A & B. Size A contains 2 grains of aspirin, 5 grains of
bicarbonate and 1 grain of codeine. Size B contains 1 grain of aspirin, 8 grains of bicarbonate and 6 grain of
codeine. It has been found by users that it requires at least 12 grains of aspirin 74 grains of bicarbonate and
24 grains for codeine for providing immediate effect. The costs for size A & B are Tk.4 & Tk.3 respectively.
Determine by graphical solution method the least number of pills a patient should take to get immediate
relief. Also, determine the minimum cost.
5. A manufacturer produces two different models, A and B of the same product. The raw materials r1 and r2
required for production. At least 18 kg of r1 and 12 kg of r2 must be used daily. Also, at most 34 hours of
labor are to be utilized. Each model A requires 2 kg of r1 and B requires 1 kg r1. Each model of A and B
requires 1 kg of r2. It takes 3 hours labor to manufacture a model A and 2 hours labor to manufacture a
model B. The profit is Tk.50 for each model A and Tk.30 for each model B. Formulate the problem as a LP
problem. Also find the number of units that should be produced to maximize the profit by graphical method.
Problem 01
A company produces 2 products where product A offers a profit of tk.25 per unit while product B offers a
profit of tk.40 per unit. To manufacture product A it requires 0.50 kg of leather, 4 sq. ft. wood and 0.2 litres
of glue. To manufacture product B it requires 0.25kg of leather, 7 sq. ft. of wood and 0.2 litres of glue.
Available resources include 2200kg of leather, 28000 sq. ft. wood and 1400 litres of glue.
Requirements:
a) State the information into mathematical form.
b) Find the optimum solution.
c) Which resources are fully consumed and and which resources remain unused and how much?
Problem: 1
A manager has prepared a table that shows the cost of performing each of four jobs by each of four
employees. The manager has stated that this goal is to develop a set of job assignments that will minimize
the total cost of getting all four jobs done. It is further required that the jobs be performed simultaneously,
thus requiring one job being assigned to each employec.
Job costs for each possible pairing were:
Employee 1 Employee 2 Employee 3 Employee 4
Jobs-1 $15 $20 $18 $24
Jobs-2 $12 $17 $16 $15
Jobs-3 $14 $15 $19 $17
Jobs-4 $11 $14 $12 $13

Problem: 2
The following table contains processing costs for two jobs on various machines. Each jobs must be proceed
on one machine. Determine the allocation of jobs to machines that will minimize total processing cost.
Job
1 2
A 8 7
Machine B 5 4
C 3 1
Problem: 3
There are Five registration center and Five persons are available for service.
