DAILY Grade 9 Section 9-SSC
LESSON Level
LOG

I. OBJECTIVES the unit, mole, that quantitatively measures the number of very small
particles of matter
 Content Standards
 Performance Standards analyze the percentage composition of different brands of two food
products and decide on the products’ appropriate percentage
composition
 Learning Competencies Determine the percentage composition of a compound given its chemical
formula and vice versa. (S9MT-IIj-20)
II. CONTENT Percentage Composition of a Compound
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
 TG’s pages
 LM’s pages pages 38-40
 Textbook pages pages 157-158
 4. Materials from LR
portal
B. Other Learning Resources G9 Science Learner’s Module. (2013). First Edition.
G9 Science Teacher’s Guide. (2013). First Edition.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous Ask the students the following questions: (2 mins)
Lesson/ Presenting new 1. How many hydrogen ions (H+) are in a mole?
lesson 2. What is the unit of molar mass?
3. How many atoms of Oxygen are present in the compound SO4?

B. Establishing the purpose for  What is the percentage of male and female in 9-SSC?
the lesson It is important to know that regardless of the higher female population, both
male and female students in this class have equal rights to quality education.
C. Presenting Examples Use 3-in-1 coffee as an example in explaining percentage composition.
Individually get the percentage composition of each component.
D. Discussing New Concepts  Define and discuss Percentage Composition
and skills #1  Present and elaborate the steps and formula for determining the
percentage composition by mass of a compound.
 Give more examples in calculating the percentage composition of
compounds
E. Discussing New Concepts Group Activity (Gender equality in group discussions and groupings)
and skills #2  Divide the class into four groups and distribute activity sheets and
materials.
 Present the criteria of the activity.
 Working by group, learners will be given sample problems.
Perform the problem solving on the activity sheets (and materials
provided).
F. Developing Mastery Posting and checking of outputs.

Give points based from the criteria.
G. Finding practical The teacher will process the answer of the students based on the questions
applications of below:
concepts/skills in daily 1. In what other ways can we use percentage composition in our daily
living lives?
2. Can you give suggestions for its practical use? (pharmacy, construction,
cooking etc.)
H. Making generalization and Ask the following questions:
abstractions 1. Why is percentage composition important?
2. How do you calculate molar mass and percentage composition?
I. Evaluating Learner Multiple Choice Quiz.
 Instruct the class to read each question and choose the letter of the
correct answer.
 Checking and processing of answers.
J. Additional Activities for Assignment: Look for a label of a sample brand of milk and identify the
application/ compounds present on it. If there is no indicated chemical formula, surf the
Remediation internet and determine the percentage composition of each element present in
the compound.
V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of Learners who earned
80% in the evaluation
B. No. of Learners who
require additional activities
for remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners who
have caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of Learners who
continue to require
remediation
E. Which teaching strategy
worked well? Why did
these work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my
supervisor can help me
resolve?
G. What innovation or
localized materials did I use
which I wish to share with
other teachers?
