Field Study 1
Narrative Report
Field Study 1 is an integral component of the Bachelor of Education program, aimed at

providing future educators with hands-on experience and insights into the field of

teaching. With great excitement and anticipation, our group embarked on this journey

to observe and document the different facets of teaching and learning in different

educational settings.

Our field study commenced with a visit to an elementary school located in a rural

community. The warm smiles and eager faces of the students welcomed us as we

entered the premises. The school's administration and faculty members were incredibly

supportive, guiding us throughout the day, and providing us with the opportunity to

observe various classroom activities.

On our first day we meet with the principal to formally discuss what are our purpose in their

school. Then, we introduced ourselves to him and some of our classmates our familiar with

him because they graduated at Pilar elementary school. After that meeting Sir Badong tour us

in the whole campus and introduced us to our cooperating teachers. Upon entering the first

classroom, we were greeted by a vibrant learning environment. In every classroom, we can

see the faces of the students that they are excited to meet us and join with them in their

class.
The following day, I formally meet my cooperating teacher Mr. Garry A. Dequit Adviser

pf Grade 5 SPJ (Special Program for Journalism). I introduced myself to him and then he

introduced me to the Grade 5 SPJ (Special Program for Journalism). I feel like I’m already

a teacher because they call me Ma’am. I observe that day, sir Garry is very calm when he

teaches the students, he’s very specific for giving an example it connected in to real life

situations because he’s major is mathematics. It’s very interesting for me because that is

my favorite subject when I’m in elementary. For another day we welcome Annisa in the

office of sir benny then they tour Annisa in the whole school and when everyone sees

Annisa, they amazed that they see an artist. Then in my every duty I observe the difference

attitude pf students, some of the students are active but they are some not participating in

the class but sir Garry is very good with discipline in his class. He calls everyone or ask

them to catch the attention and it’s a very good technique in teaching. In every class they

use modern techniques in teaching they use technology. If one of the subject teachers is not

around, they use the time to teach the students some difficulties in learning mathematics

subject. Sometimes, students dancing to make their body active to participate in the class

and that is very helpful in teaching strategies of the teacher.

Monday, my 3rd week as a field study teacher, same as the past couple days, I arrived at

7am for the flag ceremony and help the preparation of the teacher for their discussion. Mr.

Dequit is still in the continuation of their lesson last Monday, since the lesson has many

branches and it is broad, he doesn’t want anybody the be left behind, and I also observed

that when it comes to cleanliness Mr. Dequit is strict and well-disciplined, he does not want

to see any piece of trash around or under the chairs of the class which the students politely

obey when it comes to this matter.

I help my cooperating teacher prepare for the continuation of the topic. As we

progress onto the lessons, I can see the sincerity of Mr. Dequit to the class, he doesn’t

want anyone to be inactive instead they are being called out to participate and they

will. he likes to discuss in a funny way where the students enjoy the learning,

learning indeed comes when you’re happy and not scared.

As we are done with our morning routine, Mr. Dequit started the class with a prayer, and

after that a review of the past lesson. So now he’s moving up to the next topic as he

progress through his discussion I observed that even the students still pays attention to the

discussion, because every discussion there is a corresponding short quiz, since they’re in

special class they’re always grade conscious which is a good sign because they are

concerned for their learning and future.

Month of October is celebrating teachers’ day, I and my classmates participate the

world’s teacher’s day celebration, the students have the opportunity to go to their favorite

teachers in school form kinder to Garde 6, so me as a student intern I am one to guide to

students to give the flowers and chocolates to their favorite teachers, we go to every

classroom of their favorite teacher around the school. In that, I realized that if you are a

good teacher many students were admire and love you, they will back you the kindness

that you give to them. If you show your kindness and love to them, they will remember it

every time they have a special occasion to celebrate. After that celebration, we assist the

students to practice their playground demonstration for their intramural meet. They

practice every afternoon and we assist them.

My last day of observation, as I bid farewell to the Grade 5 students and to my

cooperating teacher, Mr. Dequit let me to have a time with them because they don’t want

me to go, as we enjoyed the time whenwe were together, so I did thank them and my

cooperating teacher and had a short farewell message, but I also said that we we’ll come

back for our practice teaching and I’ll be their practice teacher again and also I took the

chance to have a picture with the class.

Being a student teacher is also being a teacher’s aide working under my cooperating

teachers are moments I will cherish and learned from. I’ve learned a lot from them such

as, what to do when the class is noisy, where to find learning materials, how to maintain

the discipline of the class and many more. One of them is always giving me

a tip when teaching, and also how to improve my public speaking. They are also

helping me with lesson plans, and giving me time to teach and experience a

real life teaching. I am thankful for the lessons they’ve taught me, lessons

that I will bring to the future to hone my skills in teaching and become a better teacher.

During my student teaching experience, I spent a lot of time preparing for each class. I

worked hard to aide my cooperating teachers to make their job a little easy. I

looked for chances to help my cooperating teachers and add information on what

is being discussed. Sometimes I am also helping them in terms of technology, whenever

they don’t know what to do on their laptops, I’ll take a look if I can fix it. When I was

given an opportunity to teach I realized that I needed to be prepared as much as

possible, but, more importantly, I needed to prepare to be flexible. You never

know what’s going to come up or what will catch the students’ attention. When creating

lessons, remember that you need to be prepared for changes. Figure out alternative

activities in order to help your day go as smoothly as possible and allow

your students to gain the most from the lessons Teaching is difficult.
You’re going to have rough days, and you’re going to need help sometimes. Introduce

yourself to the librarian, cafeteria staff, administrators, custodians, secretaries, and

other teachers. Of course, finding a teaching mentor is always a good idea. As I

talked to other teachers about lessons that I was working on, they had plenty

of suggestions for activities that I could use. I loved getting ideas for tried-and-true

activities for my students, but I also enjoyed the tips and ideas that they could provide to

help me grow as a teacher. They could also help you land a teaching job, too.

In my whole journey pf field study 1 observation, i observed a lot of techniques in

teaching on how to handle the students in different situations or attitudes. Technique on

how to teach the students good discipline when they are in the classroom and during the

lesson.

I realized that being a teacher is not easy but if love your work you will be happy with

what you doing every day. You will get through all the challenges and circumstances in

your journey as a teacher. Also, the students will idolize you if you are a good teacher to

them. Most importantly, just enjoy what are your doing and follow your passion and

belief in life.
