Process Control Notes2

Automatic control is the maintenance of a desired value of a quantity or condition by measuring the existing value, comparing it to the desired value, and employing the difference to initiate action for reducing this difference. A basic automatic control system has a controlled variable, manipulating variable, summing junction to compare reference and feedback signals, controller, and actuator elements. Examples include a home heating control with a thermostat that measures temperature and controls a gas valve, and an automated tank-level control system with sensors and valves.
