Statement of Purpose

My name is Sumer Jain and I would like to take this opportunity to present my deep interest in pursuing
the Masters( /MBA) in Business and Management with a part time job assistance program offered at
the University of Bournemouth UK. I have always been diligent with my academic pursuits - I completed
my undergraduate degree - Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Jiwaji University, Gwalior, M.P.
India, with a percentage of 68.3% in First division.

After completing my Bachelor degree, I started working as a Project Engineering and Management
Trainee at Engineers Consortium in New Delhi and many other jobs in India and abroad for various
renowned MNCs in the field of Project Management and Control in Oil & Gas industry. Some of my past
renowned employers includes like Engineers India Limited, Reliance Industries, Samsung, Larsen &
Toubro and Bechtel Engineering etc. Being from a business family where father had his own
business so got me interest in business studies. During my school holidays, I usually went to my
father’s business place to help him with his work. I loved to go over and try manage different
things which made me realize my interest and my aim. Growing up, I pitched in and actively
helped my father with his business. Helping him in managing the operations, production and
also to manage the inventory at store etc.

Interest in pursuing course in Business prompted me to take the stream with science and
mathematics during my Intermediate grade. This helped me during my undergraduate course,
during my undergraduate program on Mechanical Engineering from Jiwaji University.
Though having a professional engineering degree has helped me have a perspective on the
various aspects of engineering technology applications, I target to enhance and upgrade my
professional skills and get international exposure. Also, I want to learn more about business
management globally now. After completing my management post graduate degree, I want to
work with international companies to understand the application aspects of the business
management program.

After working for almost 7 years at Energy Total and recently started working with Jonn Power Idea Ltd.
near Bangkok, Thailand now, I decided to move to the UK to further diversify my knowledge of various
aspects of management like client relationship, Engineering, Project and business management
and other activities. During my time at college, I have not only developed an in-depth understanding
of strategic initiatives that help in increasing overall workplace efficiency, but I have been working on
improving my EQ (emotional quotient) as well. With the right combination of IQ (intelligence), LQ
(logical) and EQ (emotional), I believe I will be able to understand the problems faced by different labor
groups and would be able to represent them effectively during the times of conflicts and collective
bargaining negotiations.

I want to study my Masters in University in Bournemouth UK, as it comes from the top universities in
the UK and it is also well known for its Masters program. It is situated near the city location which gives
me a great exposure about this city with nature. The Semester abroad scheme of the University of
Bournemouth will give me the much-needed international exposure. The fact is that there are many
related organizations near university, in which I can do my internship and part time work also, which
again makes me enthusiastic to be in the University. As I already know from my friends who are studying
in the UK that It has a very good reputation and it comes among one of the largest universities in the UK.
Studying for the Masters at University of Bournemouth will help me reach my goals in life hence, I am
eagerly looking forward to a positive response.

Thank you for taking the time to go through my statement – I hope I am able to provide you with a brief
summary of my academic and professional career so far along with my burning passion to be in the
collective bargaining and dispute resolution space. I would conclude my statement by quoting one of
Albert Einstein’s sayings that I firmly believe in and has helped me so far in overcoming adversity – “I
have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.”
