Chapter 3

This chapter discusses the research methodology that will be used to create a virtual library website called V-lib. It describes 4 phases: 1) Gathering data by requesting access to research papers and sorting them by category. 2) Creating the software by developing features, framework, design, and linking pages/functions. 3) Testing the website for speed, navigation, accessibility, and accuracy. 4) Analyzing statistical data through user feedback, interactions like time spent and papers viewed, and ensuring privacy and security of user information. The goal is to determine if V-Lib can assist users in finding research papers online efficiently and accurately.

Chapter III

Research Methodology

This chapter focuses on the discussion of research methods and procedures that will be done to
create the qualitative research which is the website of V-lib; Phase 1 will talk about the
Gathering of data; Phase 2 is about Creating the software; Phase 3 is to Test the website: Phase 4
is about the Statistical Treatment of data.

Phase 1: Gathering, Collection, and Procurement of Materials.

A. Requesting access to the research papers.

The researchers will draft a letter to the principal of Pasig City Science High School
(PCSHS) while giving a consent form to other previous researchers requesting their permission
to access and store their studies in the virtual library. The document will be used as proof that
they have given permission for their research papers to be stored in V-Lib.

B. Collecting and sorting out the research metadata

With permission from the principal and previous researchers, the next step is sorting the
studies into their respective categories. The categories are on what branch of Science the
research or study is. The collection takes place after the researchers gain the permission of the
other researchers to store their studies.

C. Preparation of Web Hosting Materials

After the researchers sort out and collect the studies/researchers of other researchers, the
research will use the digitization process on the information given so that it is ready to be
uploaded in the V-LIB prototype. The researchers will then prepare the Website content and plan
the website design, what programming language to use, and a database for user interactions and
storing data.
Phase 2: Creating the Software

A. Creating Features Prototype

In creating the website of V-Lib, the programmers aim to use the language Python and JavaScript
to make its features of a Virtual Library: Interactive forums; a communication method for users
to interact with each other or to get the information of the researchers: The search bar; A feature
that sorts the various and broad information that the users can access about different types of
studies like Physical Science and Life Science: Researches Archive; A collection of the
researches of PCSHS alumni that can be used by the future Pascians for their studies.

B. Setting Up Framework
The researchers will use HTML to create the structure or framework of the website that will
collect data about the user's data like name, section, email, website history, and Information
about how the user interacts with websites; what they click on, and how long they spend on a
page.

C. Designing
The researchers will design the website using CSS which plays a crucial role in styling and
formatting the visual elements

D. Merging and Branching Out Pages and Functions

The researchers are going to use jQuery and JavaScript to branch out and connect pages and
functionalities in the V-Lib website in order to improve user interaction and navigation. The
researchers will construct dynamic navigation menus and interactive features using jQuery for
DOM manipulation and event handling, guaranteeing a smooth browsing experience. Optimizing
user engagement across devices can be achieved by incorporating responsive design features and
seamless scrolling capability. AJAX content loading will also be used by the researchers to speed
up page loads and give users timely access to information. The functionality and user experience
of the website will be regularly improved by the researchers based on input from users and
testing to better serve the changing demands of V-Lib users.

E. Database Linking and Media Upload

During this stage, the researchers will integrate media upload capabilities using CSS and provide
strong database connectivity using HTML. The researchers will create linkages between the
website and the database using HTML forms and backend scripting languages like PHP or
JavaScript. This will enable the easy gathering and storing of user data, such as names, sections,
email addresses, and online interactions. Users will be able to publish and share multimedia
resources, including documents and research papers, by using CSS to style and structure visual
elements. By means of this integration, the researchers aim to preserve user confidentiality and
privacy while establishing an extensive knowledge base within the V-Lib platform.
Phase 3: Testing the Website
The researchers will use a demo link to the online library to test out the functionality of
V-Lib. The researchers will be focusing on the effectiveness of the online library in terms of:

A. Speed
This research aims to be a convenience to all Pasig City Science High School students
through an online library. An important reason why the researchers see fit for PCSHS to have an
online library is for the fast exchange of information, namely the research papers. This will serve
to be a convenience to all future researchers needing local sources or studies that come directly
from the school. Reliable Web Hosting is also responsible for the performance of the online
library in terms of its speed.

B. Navigation
Organization boosts the overall performance of the online library. They are having its
resources organized and in order, helps the efficiency of data gathering of other users needing
information. An easy-to-use online library will help in the advancement of other researchers and
their studies.

C. Accessibility
Though the online library will prove to be a convenient approach to collecting data and
local sources, the researchers aim to further improve the usefulness of the online library by
including mobile phone users in the scope of the research. In the Philippines, the country’s
population of mobile phone users is high compared to other Asian countries, let alone the
population of users in Pasig City Science High School.

D. Accuracy
The researchers aim to provide accurate information and data to Pasig City Science High
School students. As an online library, the contents of the online library must be checked and
approved by other researchers. In giving out free local sources to fellow researchers of PCSHS,
the researchers will ensure that it is accomplished.
Phase 4: Statistical Treatment of Data
A. Collection of User Feedback
While creating the software, we included the User Feedback system, which lets users tell
their experience on the website and give a rating of how good the platform is, like the rating
systems on other platforms like Google Play and Shopee. This system collects these ratings and
creates a chart showing how the website performs and how the website is accessible to users.

B. Analyzing User Interactions

While the users interact with the platform and use the features available, the frequency of
the usage of the features is logged and sent to the server, which the researchers will interpret as a
graph. This is done by using variable counters that are increased when a specific action is done
by the user like clicking links to other research papers or the like. This data collection shows the
following:

1. Time Spent on the Website

2. Research Papers Viewed
3. Frequency of Forum Usage

It is noted that due to data protection and privacy, this frequency logging is informed
directly to the users when they first enter the website, and the full activity of the user is not
recorded and will stay private for the rest of the session. There are also several pages and
conditions where the logging is disabled including the login page or other pages which may
contain inputting personal information, or when the user is outside the session tab.

The V-Lib website should assist the users in finding research papers in the library with an
online environment and by analyzing the data collected, it could show if the users can access
V-Lib easily, if the users show collaboration within the website, if the website could execute the
privacy and security measures within the website effectively, and if V-Lib can perform the task
of assisting users efficiently and accurately.
