3.2 Combining Forces Worksheet

This document provides instructions for a worksheet asking students to draw free-body diagrams and calculate net forces for 10 situations involving multiple forces acting on objects. For each situation, students are asked to draw the forces as vectors and then calculate the net force by combining the individual forces. The situations involve objects being pulled, pushed, lifted, or moving under multiple forces like gravity, friction, wind resistance, and more.

3.2 Combining Forces Worksheet

Instructions: Read the following situations and draw a free-body diagram for each
situation. Then, find the net force acting on the object by combining the
individual forces.

1. A box is being pulled to the right with a force of 10 N and pushed to the left
with a force of 5 N.

2. A person is trying to open a door by pushing it with a force of 15 N while the

door is pushing back with a force of 20 N.

3. A car is driving on a flat road with a force of 50 N and is being pushed back
by a wind force of 20 N.

4. A boat is being pulled by a rope with a force of 30 N and pushed by the
current with a force of 10 N.

5. A person is trying to lift a weight with a force of 40 N while the weight is

pushing down with a force of 50 N.

6. A rock is rolling down a hill with a force of 20 N and being slowed down by
friction with a force of 5 N.

7. A kite is being pulled by the wind with a force of 10 N and held down by the
string with a force of 15 N.

8. A person is pushing a lawn mower with a force of 30 N while the grass is
pushing back with a force of 20 N.

9. A roller coaster is being pulled by a chain with a force of 40 N and pushed by

gravity with a force of 50 N.

10. A person is walking on a flat surface with a force of 20 N and being pushed
back by friction with a force of 5 N.
