III. LEARNING STRATEGIES

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Greetings (Intrapersonal Intelligence)

Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am!

How’s your day? I’m good/great, Ma’am!

2. Prayer (Existential Intelligence)

Before we formally start, everybody please

stand for a prayer. ____, please lead the
prayer.

3. Checking of Attendance (Verbal

Intelligence)

Class Monitor, do we have absentees for (Class Monitor will report the attendance for the
today? day.)

4. Presentation of Objectives (Verbal

Intelligence)
To begin with, let us identify first the
intended learning objectives that we must attain
for today. ____, kindly read each objective shown
on the board.

A. Determine statement as bias or

prejudice (Students will read the objectives.)
B. Differentiate a bias from a
prejudice.
C. Recognize situation that depict
biases and prejudices.

B. Lesson Proper

1. Preparation (Verbal Intelligence)

Now class, have you been judged before because

of your appearance or behaviour? Have you
selectively listened to someone who is speaking in (Students will answer.)
preference to your own choice? Have you become
too receptive or friendly to certain people only?
Have you ever experienced not being selected and
not given a favour?

2. Activity (Verbal Intelligence)

Now class, we will engage in a short activity that

tends to unearth the foresight of your learning. Activity: PICTURE TALK
This is called “PICTURE TALK” wherein I will
be showing you pictures of men and women doing
different types of work. Try to look closely at each
picture and describe what you have notice about
the men and women in each print.

What do the picture reveals about the men and

women?
- The picture shows that women are busy doing
household chores and the men are doing (Answers may vary)
physically demanding and dangerous jobs.

Should women be always portrayed as doing the

household chores and men doing dangerous jobs?
(Answers may vary)
This should not be the way. Both sexes could do
different types of jobs. Nowadays, male and
female are given equal rights and opportunities.
We are not now classified by genders. Regardless
if you are a male or a female you can freely
choose what job suits your skills.

Sometimes in our life we tend to judge someone

without getting the facts first. And there are also
time people judge based on what they believe.

This thoughts and action are what we called Bias

and Prejudice. You may say that they are both the
same but there is a fine line between them.

Let us define the two.

3. Analysis (Verbal Intelligence)

BIAS is a tendency to lean in a certain direction,

either in favor of or against a particular thing. It
may be a favor of or against one thing, person, or
group compared with another, usually in a way
considered to be unfair.
(Students will listen.)

“Who among you here can give me examples of

situations that depict Biases?” (The student will answer)

 Gender Bias – If someone has a bias

about women, they might hire only
women because they feel they make
better employees for some gender-
related reason. Conversely, if they are
biased against women, they might hire
a man over a more-qualified woman,
they might hire a man over a more-
qualified female candidate.

 Religion Bias – Biases toward certain

religions can be manifested in two
different ways. If someone is biased
toward their own religion, they will
think their beliefs and practices are
superior to any other form of religion,
they might show it by making rude or
insensitive comments or go as far as
vandalizing religious buildings.

Prejudice – is an unfavorable opinion or feeling

formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought
or reason. It simply means to pre-judge or
discriminate others.

Racism Sexism
Homophobia
Nationalism Classicism

 Racial Prejudice – after the bombing of

Pearl Harbor, any person of Japanese
descent living in America was
considered a suspect. As prejudices
against Japanese grew simply because
they had a genetic link to an enemy
country, discrimination became evident
as President Roosevelt had them
rounded up and held in internment
camps.

 Ageism Prejudice – making retirement

mandatory or strongly encouraged at a
specific age based on the prejudice that
people of that age won’t be as
productive or able to do their jobs.

4. Abstraction (Verbal Intelligence)

“Now, I want you to read the situations stated and

write down the first thing that you have thought
upon reading each. You may write a reaction, a
feeling, a description or anything that comes first
into your mind.”

1. A girl wearing thick eye glasses –

2. Somebody who has iPhone –
3. Children begging for money in the
streets –

“Each of you might have answered differently in

(Answers may vary)
each item. It is because you all have different
experiences and opinion. What might appear right
to you may appear wrong to other people. This is
where the concept of bias and prejudice comes
in.”

5. Application (Interpersonal Intelligence)

This time, you will apply what you have

learned through an activity.

Class, group yourselves into three (3). Count-
