High-Speed Busbar Transfer System

4.2 How the digital phase comparison works

The digital phase comparison of the HSBTS provides the logic control with all states for
incoming feeders and busbar, which are required to identify the appropriate transfer mode.
Phase comparison is performed permanently to get an un-delayed determination of the
fastest possible transfer mode.

4.2.1 Phase angle criterion ϕ < ϕmax

Angle monitoring is performed between the busbar voltages and the standby incoming
feeder. The limit value for forming the angle criterion can be parameterised.

Default setting: ϕmax = 20o.

If the measured phase angle is outside the adjusted limit, a fast bus transfer will not be
performed.

4.2.2 Frequency difference criterion ∆f < ∆f Max

The frequency difference is also formed between the busbar voltages and the standby
incoming feeder and is evaluated using the set values.

Default setting: ∆fMax = 1 Hz.

If the measured frequency difference is outside the adjusted limit, a fast bus transfer will
not be performed.

4.2.3 Stand-by voltage criterion UIN > Umin1

This criterion uses the voltage of the actual stand-by feeder to decide whether the stand-
by source is alive or not.
Default setting: Umin1 = 80% Un
A transfer will not be performed, if the feeder in stand-by is not alive.

4.2.4 Busbar voltage criterion UBB > Umin2

This criterion is used, like angle or frequency difference, to decide whether a fast or in-
phase transfer is allowed or not.
Default setting: Umin2 = 50% Un
If the measured busbar voltage is lower than the adjusted limit, a fast bus transfer will not
be performed.

4.2.5 Residual voltage criterion UBB < Ures

This criterion is used to release a residual-voltage transfer.
Default setting: Ures = 30% Un
If the measured busbar voltage is equal or lower than the adjusted limit, a residual-voltage
transfer will be performed.

SIEMENS AG
PG W742 Page 11 of 21
High-Speed Busbar Transfer System

4.2.6 Long-time criterion td > tlong

This criterion is used to release a long-time transfer.
Default setting: tlong = 3 sec
If the time-delay tlong is expired, a long-time transfer will be performed.

4.2.7 Undervoltage criterion UIN < Uunder

This criterion is used to start a transfer in case of undervoltage in the closed incoming-
feeder.
Default setting: Uunder = 70% Un
If the measured voltage of the closed incoming-feeder drops below the adjusted limit the
high-speed transfer system starts automatically after expiring of a short time-delay tunder.
Default setting: tunder = 500ms
