EXTENDED RESPONSE

A carnival wants to set up a petting zoo. They have llamas, ponies, goats, rabbits,
sheep and pigs. Each kind of animal will be in their own pentagon-shaped pen. If
one side of each pentagon measures 6 feet, calculate how much fence they will
need to purchase for the perimeter of all the pens.

The carnival purchased 200 feet of fence. How much fence will they have left?
Using the leftover fence, create (draw) a rectangular pen that they can use to
hold their camel. What is the area of the pen you created?

Ask yourself: Did I show my work? Did I write in complete sentences? Did I answer ALL parts of the question?

EXTENDED RESPONSE

A carnival wants to set up a petting zoo. They have llamas, ponies, goats, rabbits,
sheep and pigs. Each kind of animal will be in their own pentagon-shaped pen. If
one side of each pentagon measures 6 feet, calculate how much fence they will
need to purchase for the perimeter of all the pens.

5 (sides) x 6 (feet) = 30 ft. (perimeter of one pen)

30 (perimeter of one pen) x 6 (animals) = 180 feet

They will need 180 feet of fence for the perimeter of 6 pentagon shaped pens.

The carnival purchased 200 feet of fence. How much fence will they have left?
Using the leftover fence, create (draw) a rectangular pen that they can use to
hold their camel. What is the area of the pen you created?

200 – 180 = 20 feet

There would be 20 feet of leftover fence.

Answers Vary for rectangular pen. Example:

7 Feet

3 Feet 7 x 3 = 21 square foot area

The pen I created for the camel

is 21 square feet.

Ask yourself: Did I show my work? Did I write in complete sentences? Did I answer ALL parts of the question?
